Actually the “joke” is the relationship between Jabra and Samsung engineers and Costco’s marketing department. They have clearly known about this issue since January and neither Jabra or Samsung have been able to remedy the situation except to tell people that it is a common problem they can’t fix. I do remain hopeful that the upcoming update will resolve the underlying problem, However, having noticed that my firmware will not update to the most recent version noted in these columns and Jabra is not publishing the official update version I am very skeptical and have come to believe that someone is playing games with us.
I see Costco as another victim here. Retailers typically are not tasked with verifying the claims of manufacturers. They may depend on Jabra’s/ReSound’s marketing lit, but I suspect that the real driver of their recommendations is the dispenser’s experience with each brand.
But BT LE Audio and Auracast are new technologies. Expecting them to work this quickly is wishful ‘thinking.’
In any case, Costco’s marketing isn’t to blame. They just say, ‘We offer these HAs for your consideration at prices much lower than other providers.’
First, I expected the vendors to know their product. I did the research and got the Phonak P70 with the larger 13 battery which Phonak lists as Tap Control. Turns out that is not what I received, they had button touch control. Try touch control with a helmet on.
My experience over 1 year with the Jabra EP20s has been excellent. I have no complaints. Costco has given me great service at the Richmond store in the CA Bay Area. Excellent technicians there and friendly staff.
3 years with the EP20s? Was that a typo? I got my EP 10s about 20 months ago, and the EP20s weren’t available then. I’m curious - I expected Costco to roll out new models on a country-wide basis. Perhaps your area got them earlier.
Thanks for this, Philbob! I was way off in my memory–it’s only been a little over a year that I’ve had these 20s. Prior, I had the 10s for a short while, but then upgraded them. How time flies!! It just seems like a long time–they suit me like they’ve always been there, I guess!
Thanks. I was afraid I missed an opportunity.
