Reimplantation - Been there, done that. My first CI went well but shortly after I had a bad gastro attack with the works. No worries , all was OK to the next mapping 4 electrodes not working. Was given the choice. Leave it as is or open it up again. Chose the latter. No problems. The possible reason was the unusual effort used in vomiting dislodged the new implant. After and before Xrays

Wow, that was some forceful hurling! Under those circumstances, I’d have chosen re-operation as well. I’m glad you came through it okay!
Fortunately, the worst that ever happened to me for GI reasons was that I barfed so hard that I blew out a contact lens - never did find it. 
I was glad nothing similar happened after my lumbar spine demolition and reconstruction.
