Closed or Open Domes

Hi All,
I have been using S receivers with small open domes, because my hearing loss is in the high frequency range and only moderate. I have no problem with feedback. I listen to streaming a lot. In fact, that becomes a problem, because my wife asks something, and I’m listening to my podcast or music, and don’t always catch what she said. I did get an audiogram from the audiologist, but $8K for hearing aids was not for me, so I purchased a Noahlink, and watched some videos on using the Phonak Target software from Phonak Continuing Education on Audiology Online and watching lots of Dr. Cliff, AUD videos on youtube. I bought my HA on eBay, and they were much much less expensive. The HA have been working really well. I recently upgraded from M70-R to P90-R and am now wondering about ActiveVent (a bit expensive and iffy, because I’m not sure I can get them to fit my ear canals) or to continue with the open dome S basic receivers I’m using presently. I’m also considering trying closed domes, because I would like better-sounding streaming, and trying them is only about $10.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks,
Rob

I have a similar hearing loss so here are my findings:

I have tried packets of open, closed, double power, and tulip domes, and the open and closed were tried in several sizes. The further you go from open domes, the better the streaming will sound, but not a whole lot better. Also, the more you go away from open domes, the more occlusion you will get in those low frequencies where you may rather hear those sounds naturally.

In my case, after many iterations of dome swapping, I am better with open domes. I don’t stream music but I do stream a lot of podcasts and video stuff.

In any case, you are in total control of your options and you have plenty of time to tinker since you are doing it yourself.

@JT337,
Thanks! That is good to read. I am planning to try the options like you did. I’m not unhappy with the open domes. I will probably end up with them. I can turn the base up on my phone too, and that can be my solution for music.
Thanks,
Rob

Have same kind of hearing loss. Went directly for Lumity with Activevents and self programming.
This to have (for me) the best of all worlds; conversation (open), streaming (closed), noise isolation for concentration (closed). Payoff is the CRACK! when switching between open and closed.
I still have the silicone moulds and have not yet found an audiologist to order the titanium domes. I wish there was a phonak center, simply for the ear-canal measurement of the Ti-slimtips and no strings attached.
I did find a lot of resistance however, against offering Activevent at the different providers in NL and BE, for the wrong reasons, like my hearingloss being only in the high and that the receivers will only be guaranteed for one month as if that is also the life expectancy to the Activevent. This made it somewhat a challenge to get a spare set.
