"Child Resistant" hearing aid batteries — issues?

My wife and I use the term disfunctionnal a lot in regards to the young generation, we have some here who drive around in the car with their child on their lap, who ride their ride-on lawnmowers with the 8 month old baby one their lap, they climb on the house roof with their 4 year old and think it all great fun, disfunctionnal is being very polite. This is the generation that is replacing us old " fogies"… They should kid proof them instead.

Wife was an ER nurse many moons ago and nothing burns her ass more a young kids on a riding mower.

Amazing letter. I’ve also wrote to state reps, and posted on TikTok my concerns with this law only to be harassed by someone under the name Free N. Hope Hess who is a “pediatrician” in FL who went on and on when I pointed out the issues. I also mentioned how long the battery was in the child’s stomach and she acted like a brat. About time more and more complaints come through. Again, law was passed due to negligent parents who instead of grieving forced their guilt for their inadequate supervision of THEIR child onto lawmakers who never should have passed this.

The concern I have is how long the battery was in that child’s stomach. It’s horrible when you delve into the very public details. The access to the battery could have been avoided, and they could have stopped the damage with a proper response time to the hospital. But alas, no one was adequately supervising their toddler aged child.

We can’t carry scissors all the time. Think about government buildings, planes, etc. Batteries can die anytime, anywhere. I have been reusing the plastic packages from duracell, but just consider the times when your battery dies when you’re driving, or you have to stop by CVS, etc. It still isn’t accessible, and it is asinine to force users to use scissors to open a product they need as a medical supply.

I agree. Guilty as charged. It’s the absurdity of how a vast majority of us are being inconvenienced as a result of inattentive parenting. Where does it end?

Ding! Ding! Ding! The ring of truth right here. We need to PUSH BACK HARD cuz we seniors have issues and rights, too.

Perhaps my smaller 312 batteries could even fit in one of these - but you’re SPOT ON. Amazon has gobs of options in the small memory card holder category. Thanks for that tip!!

I carry bat’s with me at all times, small memory card snap container inside a Velcro pouch same size, takes no room in my pocket. Glad to help, and I use metal shears to open those new every proof wrappers.

These are not an option for me due to them being lower power. I would need zinc air batteries due to my hearing loss.

@morganmarshall64 This wasn’t the result of negligent parenting. Wow. The problem with these lithium batteries is that they are EVERYWHERE and often in devices you’d never suspect of having them. A lot of parents who are aware of the dangers of them are shocked to discover just how widespread and hidden they are, even in kid toys that have no business having them.

That said, I am on this post b/c as a lifetime wearer of hearing aids with batteries, I am beyond annoyed with the new packaging and came to see if anyone else had figured out a workout this horrible new packaging.

It was though, If you look into the details of the child’s death. The family didn’t keep the remote control out of reach of the child, the child ingested the battery, and it was living in her stomach until she became sick. She was also misdiagnosed with croup and sent home from the hospital, just to later return after they realized the battery was missing. Had they noticed it sooner, the lithium ion battery wouldn’t have dissolved, and could’ve been removed in a timely manner. They admitted to not knowing she ingested it.

Do you do anything to prevent the vertical sides of the batteries from touching or that doesn’t matter? A picture of your case opened and closed might be helpful.

This is my case. It’s fab!

Looks handy. That requires a 3D printed insert? Not everyone can make that. Also that outer case may not work for all battery sizes.

Any issues with the battery stickers coming off from sliding the insert in and out?

My step mum has one for size 13 and size 312 batteries.

It fits my big 675 batteries so all smaller batteries will be okay.

No all is good. It’s the best case I’ve ever bought. I bought the insert as I don’t have a 3D printer.

Do you have links for where you purchased the case and insert?

I use a thin foam pad under them, when closed it’s all snug

Next is a small pouch that Phonak uses for whatever, so I tuck the card holder with bat’s in it.

I still have a lot of batteries (about a years worth) in the old packaging. You should keep a few of the empty old packages and refill them for travel or just for convenience instead of carrying the new packages.

COOL! My small memory card cases are arriving tomorrow. I think I’ll line them with a bit of that spider mat stuff - it’s like a sticky, silicone drawer lining.
