Picked up my new pair of CostCo KS9 hearing aids on Nov 1.
This morning when I replaced the dead battery for the left one, the hearing aid still did not work. So for the first time, I used the Disk and changed that filter. I probably should have put on a new dome? But I used the old one. Hearing aid works fine.
My question is, what does this disk do? Does it clean the filter so we reuse it again as we keep rotating through? I was never told anything about buying a new disk, no idea of the cost either. This just never came up.
My first CeruShield is en route to me, but I’m pretty sure it stores the used wax guard and dispenses a new one, eight times. Then you toss it. Alas, no cleaning.
I was told to change the filter every 2 months. So that means in 4 months I need a new one. I guess I just call my CostCo and order one? Maybe I have to go pick it up. Wonder if I need an appt for that. No appt to purchase batteries.
This is a nuisance. Just a way to insist we have to keep going in. I have no other need for CostCo than hearing aids, and it is quite a drive one way. Darn it. Finally found a down side to the KS9s.
OH! I just realized . . . this means I will have to maintain a membership as well? With my prior hearing aid, I just bought a bunch of batteries, then had no need of the membership. Double phooey.
Are we talking about wax guards? My Costco Audi gave me a disc of them when I got the KS9s. She also showed me how to use it. And said since it could be a pain to change them, I could just stop by and someone there would do it for me. Also gave me a package of domes. I bet I never have to pay for either as long as I have the aids. Never did with the Costco Trax 42s I had before these.
I don’t know about maintaining membership. I buy enough there to justify it so never had to ask.
Thanks. I should have dug the ones I have out and looked to see if they had that brand name on them, but I’m too lazy. And I suppose I really should make a try at changing mine since I’ve had the KS9s more like 3 months. The audi also told me she thought the way Phonak has constructed these, wax in the guards shouldn’t be a big problem (I have small power domes if that makes a difference). They do look like the wax guards are kind of hidden under there instead of exposed in the canal the way the wax guards are in the custom molds I have for the Trax.
Thanks all! I hadn’t thought about perhaps purchasing them elsewhere; thought they were a proprietary item. So now I have options, which is great.
@tribalrose, it takes about 45 mins one way for me to get to CostCo; and as I am one senior citizen, I don’t need a thing from CostCo. Just hearing aids. Even with that purchase, can’t justify the high priced membership, only get the basic one.
It must be Phonak’s brand name, because CeruShield is required to install wax guards on Marvel-line receivers. The old Cerustop “sticks” won’t do.
If you explain your situation to Costco staff, there’s a very good chance they’ll just give you some cerushields and some domes. You wouldn’t need an appointment to make this request. Typical is for people to just stop by and drop their aids for a few minutes while staff changes the filters and domes. Today while I was at my local Costco an elderly gent (late 80s, maybe 90?) had lost the chrager to some sort of accessory. They looked and found a spare charger and gave it to him. He mentioned that he’d stop wearing his aids because they were uncomfortable and wondered if there was anything they could do. They offered him a next day appointment.
I have ks7s and either these discs are part of the ks9 setup or I’m missing something here. What are these discs that are mentioned. I don’t have a clue.
Cerushield disks are new with the KS9 / Phonak Marvel line. They remove and then insert a type of wax guard that is, at present, unique to that line of HAs. Each disk contains eight wax guards.
As Brec said, their wax filters, but with an atypical delivery system. Your KS7s use wax filters too but it’s an easier to handle system than the Cerushield (and Costco likely takes care of all your filter changes.
This discussion led me to drag out my Cerushield disk and change the filters, and the Costco audi was right. It’s a royal pain. The actual changing is easy, but getting the disk to rotate so that there’s a empty place for the old filter and a new filter ready to pick up is not. I finally ended up using some duct tape doubled over on the back of the thing to hold it so that I could turn the disk to a new spot.
