Lost my HA this morning. It is either in my house or in my front yard.
Someone suggested I use a metal detector. I don’t have one but I didn’t know if I even COULD use such? I know you can’t have a magnet near a computer, it will wipe out your disk. Would a magnet remove the programming in the HA?
I am frantic and furious (with myself) over this. UGH.
I have 3 dogs and 7 cats, we are NOT going to discuss xraying all 10 of them!
What about a large magnet? I have a thingy / dohickey with a magnet on the end, to use when changing the battery. So a larger magnet would work to cover the lawn out front. Anyone know how I could find a large magnet?
It seems that the aid is new. Is it covered for lost as well as damage which most aids are as I believe may be a blessing for you. I used to have a large three by eight inch one I got at local hardware store.
You should be able to rent a magnetic broom from a tool rental place. They are used to pick up nails after a roofing job and by clean up crews after construction work.
Not much in a aid for a magnet to get but the battery.

I used a rake on the front lawn last evening, did not find it. So, I went ahead and mowed the lawn.
Since it wasn’t in the lawn, it has to be someplace in the house. Now to track it down. Thanks for all the support and help, I am very upset about this!
I am not having any success locating it. What insurance are you refering to, please? My Homeowner’s Insurance? Or through Costco? Or other? I need to start doing something tomorrow – besides fretting and searching the house, I mean.
I believe Costco had you likely purchased your aid on an American Express card which has loss/damage provisions for replacement. Please read your Costco contract and the American Express card policy. You may also see if your home owners policy covers loss aids but I doubt it unless you have a rider for aids added to the original policy.
In the past I was able to purchase repair/replacement insurance for my broken aids after the fact from my audiologist/hearing aid dispenser for around $100 a year of coverage but the damaged aid was immediately sent off for repair. Costco may do this too. I believe your current aid may very well have as much as three years of coverage the you may learn from Costco… Good luck.

When I purchased my aid from Costco, my fitter told me that Costco will replace lost aids one time for free. Do call them tomorrow and check. Good luck!!
I second what Goldfish said. When I trialled a HA from Costco last September, I was told that included in the initial price, there was a one-time replacement for loss/severe damage to the HA. It’s worth asking about at very least. Also, I believe most major credit cards, not just AmEx, provide some sort of insurance for a year or two after the purchase of goods, so if Costco fails you (which I’m sure it won’t!), you can always call your credit card company. Good luck!
Costco will replace a lost HA once, the second time is on you. I have several friends who lost a HA that they had purchased at Costco and had no problem getting it replaced. One friend found his missing HA down the couch before the new one came in from Costco, so he cancelled the order and eventually used it about 9 months later when his dog ate it.
I just finished vacuuming for the 3d time, hoping it would show up. I think my house has never been this clean since I bought it 14 years ago!
Spoke with Costco. He is going to fill in the paperwork and hold it. He advised me to keep looking and wait until it’s been missing about a week before submitting the paperwork. Especially when I said I have cats; said often cats will hide their new found ‘treasure,’ then bring it out and leave it around and I will find it.
Earlier today, someone asked me if there is a way I can make a sound which will create feedback in the HA, and then I can go around the house trying to locate it. I have no idea if this is possible?
Glad you are able to get it replaced. How did you lose it? Was it in a pocket or did it fall off your ear? How will you be able to avoid a similar accident in the future?
In the morning, I tend to put it on first thing. Then after breakfast, I pull the pajama top up and off, pull on a Tshirt to head to the Y. I don’t remove it, and I don’t check that is it settled after all that. So I guess I need to change what I do in the mornings.
