I finally got to try Auracast. AMA.
Smashing, thank you for the article and AMA
Does this means that if you don’t have HA and smartphone Auracast enabled, you are out of luck?
Are there any practical solution for existing devices (non Auracast)?
Auri receiver seem a cumbersome solution!!!
E1: If one is watching a movie while awaiting for a trainin the station, how does he get notification or voice announcements on his phone?
Can text transcript be sent as well as hearing the announcements?
Thank you
Apologies, I got busy. Thanks for the Qs!
Yes, although many places will hopefully supply the dedicated receiver / headphone combos like the Sydney Opera House.
It was really easy (click one button). I can’t imagine anything much easier. Maybe headphones that are just always tuned in where the headphones have the receiver built in. And a volume knob on the side or something?
For the moment, you’d have to tune into the broadcast fully, but I did suggest to the Google engineer that it would be better to have create system where you could give streams access to interrupt whatever you’re listening to rather than tune in to what would be largely dead air …
Technically the phone is more like a relay that allows you to see and select the channels and then once you select a channel the phone tells your hearing devices to begin listening to the broadcast… so the audio doesn’t pass through your phone and for that reason, I think a text stream would not be possible …
Thank you for your reply
