Shopped both networks and in-network cost is $7700 and out-of-network is $4000. My insurance provides up to $2500 every 3 years…and I’m already at my deductible for the year. Shoot, I could buy a pair direct online for $3000 and DIY tune them.
I’m truly struggling with why I would go in-network and pay the nearly 100% markup…so leaning towards either the direct online OR out-of-network…anyone have strong feelings either way?
After doing a lot of research I’m leaning toward buying direct from someone on line and having them program per my audiogram and then using DYI there after. I would probably experiment with open and closed domes also.
Yeah it’s a complete rort, the HAs are already grossly overpriced and looking at the “network/insurance” they too are lining their pockets, do yourself a favour and buy from Costco if possible, and then do your DIY projects from there, $1500 to $1600 is all you should pay for the exact same the independent clinic is charging $7700.
Yeah, thinking the same too…directhearing.com sells these things for $3000 a pair! I’d be a complete nOOb to the world of DIY, but nothing that scares me.
If you don’t want to program yourself yet, you can get a set of Phonak Sphere 90’s for about $3,800 from ZipHearing. That includes fitting from a local audiologist and one year of follow up fittings. They also give you a 45 day no questions asked return period plus the normal three year manufactures warranty and loss insurance. When I started DIY, I had a good fit from a ZipHearing recommended audiologist. Having a good starting point gave me a lot of confidence to begin with. I don’t think I would begin with hearing programed only from your audiogram which is what you get if you buy online without any personal interaction. That said, once I was comfortable with programing, I did purchase from an online source without any personal interaction. Good luck.
