When looking for CIC hearing aids, I ruled out Widex because I understood they didn’t support bluetooth or streaming. But I see on this page the statement that Bluetooth is supported with a DEX accessories (maybe the COM DEX). How well does this work with CIC or ITE models? Is this information from hearingtracker correct?
“Widex reduced the size of its processor engine by 40% in the Widex CUSTOM™ family to deliver hearing aids with custom cosmetic options without compromising sound quality. They deliver high-performance sound processing and Bluetooth connectivity through DEX™ accessories.”
OK, I guess it is on the Widex site too.
How does this work? Do they hearing aids support some kind of proprietary wireless protocol and the COM DEX passes that on to Bluetooth?
I’m not sure that is accurate, my audi told me no streaming was supported when I trialed these aids and I’m not sure how it would work other than to adjust to that program because there are so few controls you can use with the tonelink app.
honestly though I found the in ear devices to be of a far less superior sound quality than the RICs. they didn’t have the widex sparkle if you know what I mean, they sounded very muffled and muddy. this is the only way I can describe them and we did play about a lot with the tuning.
Widex support at least in the UK are very approachable though, so maybe ask them directly.
I have custom Moment 440s and use the comdex to stream from my phone for music & calls. It’s great, no interference and easy to control as it’s around your neck rather than needing to get your phone out. I also streamed audio from my work laptop using the comdex. My customs have awesome sound & clarity. I would get a slightly larger custom with two microphones for best sound experience.
It streams fine underneath a top/coat-something like a heavy detailing/zip could possibly interfere but very rarely. I can feel the front button through clothing to stop streaming or press the side button to mute/unmute-but if you take a call you need to hold it near your mouth as the microphone is at the top of the rectangular section. I love it, calls are so clear & music is great. It can only connect with BT enabled laptops I believe. With work in a call centre this was excellent as I could stream calls through Teams.
It can do, but if people say it sounds quiet I just hold it closer. I don’t personally find it a problem, all depends on what you are used to I guess. It just gives such great sound for calls etc without some of the connectivity issues you can get with other methods. I charge it once or twice a week & wear it for music streaming whilst running & for any calls.
