Bluetooth connections take away sound reception

Problem: Hearing aids with Bluetooth connection take away from ‘ambient sounds’ while connected via bluetooth to ANY device. The connected sounds are great, but if left connected - it is like taking the cream off the top and dulling the surrounding sounds ability to be heard. My remedy is to ‘forget this device’ to disconnect, because my iPhone will automatically connect, as will my computer and my TV. [I am using older Phonak Audéo M30 13T with custom ear molds - is this issue ‘the tech level’ manufacturer or a brand specific problem?]. I have reverse slope hearing loss.

If you are using the MyPhonak app on your smart phone, go to the Bluetooth streaming page when there is an active Bluetooth signal and adjust the Ambient Balance slider at the bottom of the page. Hope this helps.

My 'technology level will not ‘let me’ have the app from Phonak (the M30 is low in the tech level). BUT this information is useful - there is hope, this has been observed by others AND it has the possibility of being better when I get my next set.

Have you raised this with your audiologist? They ought to be able to adjust the streaming program to have the same microphone settings as your normal program.

I’m surprised at that. I have a pair of M30s, I shall see if the app works. I’m on Android.

Bluetooth management is a big thing for me with Phonak aids, as you can’t turn off Autoswitching. You can, however set “manual switching” for other devices like Roger mics or the Phonak TV Connector. I use “manual plus beep”, so when I walk into the TV room, I hear a 2-tone beep. I short press within about 10 seconds will connect me, otherwise it won’t.

I recall reading somewhere on the forum some time ago, that there was a firmware upgrade on the M series which was necessary for some functionality (don’t remember what). Maybe @user311 needs the latest firmware.

Could be. Mine are Naidas, which will have been released later than most Marvels and may already ha e newer firmware

You should be able to control bluetooth ambient sound from the Home screen, not the Devices screen. Connect to a bluetooth device and post a pic of the home screen if you’d like.

I rarely use the app, as I control the ambient sound balance with the rocker switch on the HAs (while streaming / bluetooth / TV Connector / Roger).

I didn’t realize that. Just looked at Target and apparently an increase in volume will also reduce environmental noise and visa versa while streaming, phone calls and using partner mic

It has a similar effect, but the volume rockers, become ambient balance. When you’re next streaming, open the app, and click on Ambient balance, where you see the slider. Then, use your rocker, and you’ll see it altering the ambient balance on the screen. All good fun.
