My wife has Phillips H.A. and they are connected by Bluetooth to a Google Pixel 6A cell phone thru the Phillips app. She has Dementia so I handle everything. The issue that I’m experiencing is that if I try to make a call from the phone and the HA are connected, she hears the phone call and the person receiving the call cannot hear me speak. The person receiving my call answers, I hear them, but they can’t hear me. If I disconnect the app on the phone I can make a call normally. We are both new to this and can’t figure it out.
We are missing some information.
What model of Philips hearing aid are you using, 9030,9040,9050?
What have you done to fix the problem so far and in what order did you do them?
Do you have any of the hearing aid settings set in the Pixel 6a phone under the settings menu; accessibility; hearing devices? Note you have to scroll down to the bottom to see the hearing aid devices menu.
Note the Pixel 6a only does ASHA and not LE audio. So if by any chance something is set to LE audio, you may have issues.
I have the Phillips 9050 from Costco. To eliminate the problem I simply disconnect the HA from the app and all works well. I haven’t checked any HA settings on the Pixel under hearing devices only because I didn’t know about them. I’m not aware of “ASHA” or “LE” settings so please elaborate. Thanks for the quick reply.
I checked “hearing devices” under accessibility on the 6A and found this: “Set up and manage ASHA and LE Audio Hearing Aids, cochlear implants and other amplification devices”. So apparently this phone can manage ASHA and LE processes. I also found the Phillips HA listed under “Hearing Devices” in the same place. So nothing was changed.
I have the 9040 so things may be a bit different with my 6a.
- I would try removing the Philips Hearlink app.
- Turn the phone off and back on.
- Pair the hearing aids to the phone without the Hearlink app
- Reinstall the Hearlink app.
Sometimes a conflict with different apps on the phone can cause issues. Rebooting the phone often fixes those kind of issues.
I would also make sure that the Hearing device settings are turned off. They caused the volume button to not work correctly for me unless I had the hearing aid paired to the phone.
It’s also possible that there is app on the phone that isn’t playing nice with the Philips app. So you may have to uninstall each app on the phone one at a time to figure it out which one is causing issues.
Since I have the older 9040, I can’t see what you might see. I just mentioned LE Audio just in case there was something there with the 9050, which does have LE Audio capability, and the Pixel 6a. So it’s really just a thought on my part.
Switch bluetooth OFF on the Pixel phone, when you want to make a call. That should be enough.
You only need the phones bluetooth ON if you want to change the settings on the hearing aids via the Philips App.
I wonder why you need the hearing aids constantly connected tho the phone. Are you just monitoring the battery status for your wife?
I have Starkey Edge AI with a Pixel 6a.
My aids are connected but I have to talk in the phone for the other person to hear me.
On my phone BLE is greyed out.
The wife has dementia. So you need to keep things simple.
Okay, if the wife also uses the phone for calls and audio streaming , then the poster should switch bluetooth OFF before he makes a call with the phone.
After he ended the call he switches bluetooth back to ON that the wife can stream againt to the hearing aids.
For the Philips 9050, you can use the Bluetooth USB dongle FlooGoo FMA120 to connect the hearing aids to your phone via a USB-C to USB-A adapter. When you need to handle the call yourself, simply unplug the dongle, and then replug it back into the phone when your wife needs to use her hearing aids. This method might be simpler than navigating through menu options during the call. Additionally, you can remove the pairing between the hearing aids and the phone, as you no longer need the phone’s Bluetooth to connect the hearing aids.
You are correct. I really don’t require the HA to be connected to my phone all the time. I will simply disconnect them from the app and reconnect them when necessary. This way I can make calls anytime. Thanks for the suggestion.
