Best self programmable hearing aid options?

Hi,
Im looking to get some OTC hearing aids, but want to have the flexibility to program them myself. I have audio technology expertise, and want to be able to access all the adjustments an audiologist has access to. It seems the Jabra Select are locked preventing access to any advanced adjustments. If this is true, which HA can your PC software access to control? Thanks. dan

Hi Dan, seems that it’s not DIY for the OTC as such, you can use an App but it’s quite limited, so I’d recommend Costco, as any of premium models sold there can be DIY, the software and hardware interface would be required, easily available tho, post your audogram as this will help everyone offer advice.

I tried to post an attachment with my audiogram, but got a message that attachments were not permitted for new users. Huh??? is there a way I can upload it?

  1. Click on your icon.
  2. Click on profile icon.
  3. Select preferences.
  4. Select My Audiogram.
  5. Enter your Audiogram and save.

OK, got my audiogram posted. Now Im trying to figure out what devices are going to give me the flexibility I want to tweak and adjust all settings. the simple phone interface that Jabra/ Costco offers is not what I want. What are you folks finding to work well? Thanks. -dan

So you wanna DIY your HAs, no problem all you’ll need is the software and hardware interface, we have a DIY section here on hearingtracker

@sakols
What is you budget … do you want new with professional progaming to start, or you can start with used aids for much less $$$ and learn from the beginning … it is not that hard.
As tenkan has said any of the prescriptin aids from costco can be self progamed and the price is the lowest you will find for new aids.
I have done both new from costco and also purchased used from ebay and facebook market place.
If you go used ask for advice here about the aids that you are looking at.

The sound tech experience will help, I used to be a DJ and my eyes lit when I saw the “equalizer” in the software

hi, so it appears you want full prescription hearing aids so that you can make fine programming and adjustments as necessary. I started with a used pair that i bought on ebay. You can really get some tremendous deals on ebay, but you have to watch it until those deals show up. My second pair i bought on Ebay were Oticon Intent 1. I got an unbeatable deal. on a minimally used set. I was prepared to go to Costco, but these deals showed up on ebay. I’d say that Costco is more of a sure thing, because you will have full programming and warrantee support. With Ebay you are more on your own and you have to be carful on what you are buying. Although there are some sellers on Ebay that sell premium hearing aids with support. Again just be careful. Fully look into the sellers history to make sure they are reputable.

Thanks all for your replies. Im inclined to get a slightly used pair on eBay and take the full DYI approach. I just don’t know where to start looking for the devices that will be good based on my Audiogram. There are lots of good reports on the Jabra Enhance. It sound like they are somehow locked down preventing DIY’ers from full adjustment capability. Is this true? Jeffre, you liked/ got a good deal on the Oticon. Other than the deal, were there reasons you chose that over others?

Jabra enhance pro are NOT locked I have the 20’s and they are good aids,
you will also need a Noahlink wireless programing device.
This is not a bad offer :

Thanks GrayGhost. I think the jabra 50s are the latest models, and I have seen them on eBay too. Is there anything better about the 50’s? I just remember seeing something referring to a certificate they needed in order for them to be programmable through Noahlink.

I think the “50” is an OTC … and not programable with smartFit software !

Can you post a link to the one you are looking at ?

the jabra enhance pro 30 is the latest version from Costco … same as the Resound Vivia 9
