Problem Solved. The companion app somehow turned on the tellicoil when I wasn’t looking.
I tried it this AM and had to turn the coil on to hear the EMI.
So, the car is actually a test tool to see if the tellicoil works.
Or one can use the tellicoil to hear the heart of the car: starter, injectors, etc.
But I still don’t know what that ticking is when the ignition is on and ICE isn’t running or is running.
Any ideas?

Thanks for letting us know!
One more thing we can consider if we here “strange things”

Yes, I hear occasional electrical sounds with my old resound HAs. I haven’t noticed it in the car though. My dishwasher has WiFi, so I’ll occasionally hear it at the end of a load if I don’t open its door to turn it off. There are other household sounds that appear but mostly I ignore them. I’ll be “looking” from now on.

I take my hearing aids off when I drive because I have a convertible, and there are SO many extraneous noises I don’t want to hear-just my music and my V-8!

Cars with direct injection have a much higher fuel pressure, so the injectors probably also have a higher energy and might be more likely to produce electromagnetic emissions.

Fuel pump, usually submerged in the tank?
