Audiograms - how to obtain mine

I have just had a Hearing Test but the private Audiologist will not let me have my Audiogram!! I thought it was my data and I should be able to obtain the Audiogram. how can I do that?

You do not say what country you are in, but in most places patients have full (legal) access to their medical files. There are also do-it-yourself options to obtain an audiogram using earbuds, like with Apple’s Airpods Pro2 series. Those can also double as HAs, if your hearing deficit is not too bad (less than 60 db, see the relevant threads here), but that option does not exist in all countries. Finally, most HA shops will be happy to generate your audiogram (and dispense HA recommendations) for free.

Thank’s RobHoof, I am UK based and so far none of the possible providers of an Audiogram will let me have a copy if I were to ask them to perform a Hearing Test.on me. Good old UK!!

Perhaps you can hit your doctor with:

“Under the Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018 and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) individuals have a legal right to apply for access to health information held about them. This is a “Subject Access Request”. It includes NHS or private health records held by a GP, optician or dentist, or by a hospital.”

https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/accessing-health-records/

and ask on what basis he is breaking the UK law?

Thank’s again, but things seem different in the UK, the only way to get your Audiogram seems to be perseverance!! The Hearing Aid industry in the UK appears to have a strong influence on the Health sector, Apple AirPodPro2 Hearing Test is not available here, I wonder why?

You’re wrong on this. You can FOI it as it’s your medical record.

However if you’ve been somewhere and haven’t reimbursed them for the time they took in testing you, they could decide (quite reasonably) that you owe them for their time and effort.

Thank’s Um_bongo, I offered to pay (over £100) for my Audiogram and the Audiologist declined my offer.

Report them to the HCPC then.

You’ve made a reasonable request, offered more than enough reimbursement: honestly, just shop them if they continue to refuse for no reason.
