I have gone from CICs to over the ear Intent 1s, in July this year. I have been told that if someone speaks to me from the side, I will not pick up every word said. Intent 1s are top of the range, so why.
Depending on your hearing loss, I have severe hearing loss and have the INTENT1 aids. I have been wearing aids for 20 years and Oticon aids for 14 years. The INTENT1 aids is light years a head of everything I have worn in the past. But no I don’t hear every word. And to be honest I don’t believe even people with perfect hearing actually hear every word. Without my aids I hear less than 50% of words. With my INTENT1 aids I hear just over 90% of the words.
It should be possible with any top-grade hearing aid to adjust the direction of the mics to focus on a narrow, or wider, forward pickup. If yours is adjusted for a wider pickup, you should have no trouble hearing someone walking to your side. When I walk outside with a companion, I use “outdoor” setting and HAs pick up his voice just fine.
Thank you for your reply. No I don’t think people who don’t wear hearing aids hear every word either. I too have been wearing Hearing Aids for 25 years, but always CICs until this July. Also he said with OTEs you must face the person who is speaking to you. Maybe it’s me still not use to them. But thanks again for your reply.
I must add that I have Tinnitus also which may not help.
The INTENT1 aids have what I call surround sound. I can hear my wife from another room normal behind, well enough to understand what the meant. The only time I have to look right at someone while wearing my INTENT1 aids are individuals that don’t talk loud enough or when I am in a noisy environment.
I have tinnitus 24/7/365 the omly time i notice it is when I am paying attention to it or don’t have my aids on. Sure very quiet environments cause me to notice my tinnitus but I listen to audio books or music to mask it
If you are like me you have had tinnitus long enough to have compartmentalized it to the far back of your mind like i had to learn to do. I had tinnitus almost 30 years before I started wearing aids.
I do not have the ability to switch like you do when you go out. I have Octocon Intent 1s, which I am told are top of the current range. I understand what you mean re narrow and wide, but the Audi would have to look at that for me. But thank you!
Yes, I too have surround sound also. Since I have had these I must have been back ten times to have settings altered. I don’t like saying this, but I wonder if I should see another Audi, and get his/her view. But thank you!
What is the real problem? I got my INTENT1 back in June and haven’t had any issues. I did get my annual hearing test in October and my audiologist did a minor adjustment.
I only have the default program and it has proven to be all I need. Now my audiologist has been my audiologist for 6 years now, and has made numerous fine adjustments over the years. Now all that he has to do is copy my adjustments from my older set of Oticon aids to my new aids and then fine tune them to the improvements in the newest generation of aids.
The real problem, Well I suppose it’s as simple as this. Sitting across from someone, and can’t make out all of their words one day, the next, I can. They talk loud enough also, it’s not as if they speak softly. I can sit with the Audi and can hear every word they say. Also I use the Oticon TV Adapter that streams into my ears, one night it’s fine, the next night I have to turn it up. And this is the same programme recorded, with the same people speaking. Maybe it’s just me. I got sold these because CICs couldn’t handle my hearing loss, so therefore maybe I am expecting too much. If I remember, at least one ear has a 50% loss, especially at the top end. I suppose I have a downer on them through expecting them to make me hear better than CICs, or being told I would hear better. I cannot understand why it’s reasonable one day and not every day, like I said, it’s probably me!
First thing it would be best id you posted your audiogram
Second do you have domes or custom ear molds.
The difference from one day to the other is an interesting thing. Is it possible that your recievers are in the same place in your ear canals?
I have custom ear molds, with skeleton retention so my aids don’t move around.
Also if you can explain some about your tinnitus, it can effect how you hear.
Also interfere from WiFi routers can interfere with the signal from the TV adapter. And you commen3that you have been back to the audiologist a number of times, did he run any diagnostics on the aids? The aids could have a defect. The receiver wires may not be fully seated in the aids.
I am a retired IT professional and my strong suit has always been troubleshooting.
Firstly I do not have access to my audiogram. Secondly I have custom ear molds. So should not really move, but on saying that, if I push them in more sometimes the hearing is better. So to me they are not quite correct. But I am told they should not be as close to the ear drum as CICs would be.
My tinnitus is permanently there all the time. It’s as if there is a fan on all the time. Or it can change to other sounds, but it’s permanently there.
There is a setting on the Intent 1s for this, but the Audi has said it could make it worse.
I had the receiver wires changed to shorter ones, but no, no diagnostics has been run on them as far as I know.
I will make an appointment with him again and ask about the items you pointed out.
It’s a good point about the TV Adapter, it sits a shelf above the Router, so I will move it.
Thank you once again!
One last question and a recommendation.
What is the firmware level of your aids. 1.1.0 is the latest that i know of. My aids are still on 1.0.1
The recommendation is to get the aids checked out. It could be the ear molds but i don’t think so.
I don’t use the tinnitus relief as i prefer just listening to audiobooks.like I said I don’t notice my tinnitus until I remove my aids, or mute them. My aids are adjusted to my prescription audiogram and possibly a little extra. I hear so much more. Than with any other aids i have ever had. My audiologist and I spent 2 years, 15 appointments, and 2 years of therapy to get myself able to handle the loudness that I needed to fully understand speech as I now do. And i also can enjoy music again something i had done for many decades.
Yes, I am on 1.1.0. I have emailed for an Appointment to have them checked, along with a list of things.
Well if it took you two years to get yours right, then me after just six months, there is hope there.
My Hearing Aids are adjusted to my hearing loss, via a hearing test, with slight tweaks here and there.
If I put my old CICs in as a test, the sound is loud, but the voices are not clear. Put the Intent 1s back in and I can hear the same people talk albeit I might miss a word or two. That proves the Intent 1s are better than the old CICs.
I like you want to get the best out of them I can. I will come back to you after I have seen my Audi. Thanks again for your time!
