Are there any hearing aids that work like Shokz (non-surgical bone conduction)?

Hi everyone,
I’m currently using a Signia Pure 7AX hearing aid for one ear that has hearing loss. It works decently for speech, but recently I tried something interesting.

I tested the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 bone conduction headphones, the type that sit just in front of the ear, and to my surprise, I could clearly hear music through both ears, including the weaker one. That really caught my attention.

It made me wonder:
Are there any hearing aids out there that work in a similar way, transmitting sound like Shokz does, without requiring surgery?

To be clear, I’m not referring to bone-anchored hearing aids that require surgical implantation. I’m looking for non-invasive, wearable devices that might use similar principles, like bone conduction or another external transmission method, to help people with single-sided hearing loss or partial hearing loss.

If anyone has come across such a device or has experience with something similar, I’d really appreciate your input.

Thanks in advance!

Yes! The companies that make the surgical implants also make non-surgical options. They must be dispensed by an audiologist; cannot be purchased OTC.

The Ponto Softband – enter the world of sound | Oticon Medical

This one is made by a cochlear implant company. I haven’t heard great things about it with peds but it might be a good fit for you. ADHEAR Bone Conduction System

You can always talk to an audiologist to see if you can trial one before buying!

Thank you so much for the detailed info!

I’ll definitely look into the Baha Softband, SoundArc, Ponto Softband, and ADHEAR systems — I didn’t realize some of these non-surgical options existed for adults. It’s good to know they’re available even if they’re not over-the-counter.

I’ll reach out to my audiologist to see if any of these can be trialed before committing. Appreciate your help!
