…if taking the aids out of my ears often results in the domes more-or-less “turning inside out”?
What type of dome is it? Open? Bass dome? Power dome (2 in 1 type)?
Phonak double domes. I had double domes on my KS4.0 aids, but I think they were a little smaller and did not turn inside out.
Then I don’t know if it’s too big or not, but another possibility is that it is very soft as well. So if it’s snug inside the ear canal and you pull it out fast enough, the snugness may hold the outer part in place and the softness inverts the dome before the outer part gets dislodged.
What happens if you pull it out slowly by wiggling it a little bit? How easy is it to return it to the inside in shape? Maybe over time, it’ll harden up more with use and stop turning inside out.
Of course you can try a smaller side double dome. But if you get to a smaller size double dome that is not snug enough and starts slipping out, then I’d stick with the next size up that wouldn’t cause slippage anymore and not worry about it turning inside out upon retrieval as long as it feels comfortable inside your ear canal.
Sounds like new domes in very clean ears.
If it doesn’t hurt and/or cause bothersome occlusion, I wouldn’t worry about it.
My two ears are not alike at all. The curve inside is different. My domes are identical and my dome in my left ear always comes out inside out. ALWAYS…
I think this is a very good point. I guess certain shapes of the ear canal can cause the dome to come out inside out more easily.
I have different-size domes in left and right ears. I should try a smaller dome in place of a larger one.
It happens to me all the time.
I agree with MDB, as long as it doesn’t hurt, it’s okay.
If you need large domes for the best resultsIt, this takes precedence IMO. As for feedback prevention, etc.
If they work properly otherwise, is this that big a deal. Am I missing something
If the domes do not hurt when you take them out or put them in; and you can hear very well through them, I would not worry about this at all. You can try smaller domes if you really want to, but they may start to slip out. I would not worry if the above is true.
