Apple watch, cellular

if I have compatible hearing aids, does an apple cellular watch stream from the watch to my HA, if my phone isn’t with me?

Not unless you have phonak aids paired to your watch or if you have Oticon aids you need the connect clip, even then i am not sure that will work

It doesn’t work with my Philips 9010 aids.

My non-Cellular Apple Watch 9 is paired with my IPhone 14. I can tell you it does almost nothing without the phone in my pocket. One of the reasons I bought it was to stream from the watch directly to my HAs. Keeping in mind while it’s not cellular it does it does have a cell connection as long as my phone is with me. But I can tell the watch to stream something and it will actually go through the phone. But because the phone is in my pocket the streaming to my HAs is spotty at best.

The best thing I can say about Apple 9 watch is it quickly advised me I had Afib and to see a doctor. It was right….It also identified my wife the same way. It also has great fall protection and easy 911 calling.

If you have a Bluetooth headphone see if you can pair it to the watch and have it stream to it.
If it does than maybe Phonack legacy Bluetooth hearings aids will work.

I used my Phonak Lumity and now my Infinio Spheres every day this way to listen to audiobooks on my daily dog walks. The books are played off either the Audible or Libro.fm apps, but they are downloaded to my Apple Watch Ultra rather than being streamed over the air.

I just paired the aids as I would any other earbuds and they work well. With the lumity ones I got some drop outs on the part of the walk that takes me through a wide open field on a hill, but testing the Spheres were rock solid this morning.

I’m currently watching a show, Better than us, off Netflix via AppleTV with audio streaming through the aids.

A double tap on the left aid acts to play/pause.

I also use them for Teams calls on my MacBook.

@AlexE, thank you so much for sharing your experience.

Can you please confirm that you are able to stream audio from your Apple Watch to your Phonak Sphere hearing aids when the Watch is not connected to your phone? (On your walks, you have your watch, but not your iPhone with you, correct?)

What about phone calls? Are you able to stream those from the Watch into the Spheres?

Today I called Phonak audiology and asked if an Apple Watch could stream audio to hearing aids and the audiologist said no, that’s not currently possible. Today I saw a patient who would like to do just that.

Searching online, I have found general articles that say it can be done, but your post is the only item I’ve found so far that confirms it working. It would be wonderful to confirm this capability.

Thank you so much,

I have Phonak Audeo Paradise P90R’s.
I have an iPhone 6.

I didn’t know I could pair them to my watch. They are paired to my iPhone SE.

That makes sense that you can.
When i had the apple watch I paired my connect clip to it to hear on my aids.

Yes, just did a double check turning my phone off (rather than just locking it) and I’ve just been able to stream an audiobook via the Audible app on my watch to a single Phonak Sphere (the left one that is set up to be the bluetooth connection).

If it makes a difference (I should not think it would) it is a first generation Apple Watch Ultra.

Then with these below I’ve not tried with the phone off, but it seems to be coming from the watch.

  • Music and audiobooks streamed from the Spotify app (it shows a symbol of a watch or the phone based on the source) but making sure the audio is on the watch has been a bit hit and miss. On occasion you start off on your run, just get out of home wifi range and then the music cuts out.

  • It works with the Libro.fm audiobook app and the podcast app.

  • There is unfortunately not a BBC Sounds watch app.

Hope that helps

Alex

Yes, you can pair your hearing aids to an Apple Watch, but you’ll need to pair them with your phone first. Here are some steps you can try:

  1. Prepare your hearing aids: Restart your hearing aids to get them ready for pairing. Depending on your hearing aids, you might need to put them in pairing mode by opening and closing the battery door or placing them in their charger.
  2. Pair with your phone: Download your hearing aids’ app to your phone.
  3. Pair with your Apple Watch:
  4. On your Apple Watch, open Settings and select Bluetooth
  5. Put your Apple Watch into pairing mode by accessing the control center and selecting Connect Device
  6. Select the name of your hearing aids from the list of detected devices
  7. Tap Pair when prompted
  8. Use your hearing aids** Once paired, you can use your Apple Watch normally and hear sounds through your hearing aids. You can also use the Apple Watch app on your iPhone to adjust the volume of your hearing aids.

If you answer a cell call on your Apple Watch the audio does not go to your hearing aids. It comes out of the speaker on the Apple Watch.

Thanks so much for confirming that app audio streaming works with your watch and hearing aids.

What about phone calls? Are you able to stream those from the Watch into the Spheres (when the phone is off)?

Never mind. HearingTracker video from Jan 2024 satisfies me that Phonak Bluetooth hearing aids will stream phone calls from an Apple Watch. Watch this (pun intended):
