Apple announced Hearing Aid functionality in AirPod Pros 2 with clinical Tone testing

Fascinating! Truly

I’ve been fighting to hear for 3 years. I’ve worn hearing aids for over 20 years.

Along the way I’ve wished that Google and Applewould reinvent hearing aids.

Hearing aids are medical equipment. Go figure.

I started a thread on the Apple Community Forums the morning iOS 18 was released:

It seems that the Therapeutic Goods Administration have not approved this enhancement of the AirPods Pro 2 here, and private communication between commenters and the TGA suggest that they have not been asked to look at this.

The TGA have approved the APP2s as “hearing assistance devices” but today’s update of iOS (18.2.1) still has not restored the Hearing Test (done inside iOS) and the capacity to upload that audiogram to the APP2s yet. We tend to being a bit behind the rest of the world in any health-related tech, but on the other hand, we do get to celebrate New Year before most of you!
