January 2019 I woke up to slight pain and very distorted hearing in one ear. It turned out to be permanent sensorineural hearing loss in frequencies below 1.8kHz.  Most voices, music, and lower frequency sounds like car engines sound very loud and horribly distorted. My audiologist thinks a hearing aid might help. Scheduled to get one soon, Aug 2019.
