Has anyone tried to get a refund from Costco after their normal warranty period since the COVID has disrupted the ability to pursue getting adjustments that were needed and where their fitter and audiologist have been unable to help?

I guess it depends on how long after your trial period you wanted a refund. I once returned a set to Costco after 10 mo. for a refund and bought a different brand from them. The fitters have a little leeway as to returns as Costco wants happy customers/ All you can do is ask.

They probably let you return your set of hearing aids after 10 months because you bought a different brand from them. I wonder if you simply wanted to return for a refund 4 months after the trial period, whether they’d let you or not?

My brother tried to return his KS8 set to Costco only a week after the 6 month trial expired and they wouldn’t let him.

But you’re right, it doesn’t hurt to ask.

How long past your trial period? How many appointments have you had. Do you want a refund or exchange?

It’s probably been 4 to 5 months.
This is the second brand I’ve tried and so far I’m not making much progress towards getting any good results.
I had the Costco brand and now Resounds.
I can actually hear better without the HAs than with.
If they really can assure me they can succeed with another brand I will stay with them. If they can’t I would like to get a refund and try somewhere else.

Your hearing is pretty messed up. Programming any name brand hearing aids for your hearing loss will be a challenge. Finding the right fitter is more important than the brand of aids you try.

looking at a Cochlear Implant would be worth it if you havent already. I would be suprised if you were able to get a refund 5 months after the cut off date, but certainly worth a try

I have tried the Kirkland 9.0 and now have ReSound Prezas.
Both were fitted with custom molds.
With both I have experienced the “head in a barrel “ echo/ feedback. The audiologist has helped with this problem but I can still hear better without than with.

This really surprises me that Costco recommended those aids for your hearing loss.
The Brio 4 BTE SP aid would be a better choice and questionably enough aid for your loss.

All you can do is ask. I agree with the suggestion to get an eval for cochlear implants.

I was changed to Resound aids when the fitter said the Costco aids I had bought would not cover my hearing loss. She assured me the more expensive aids would work.
For many sessions she tried to adjust the aids for occlusion with no success.
Then along came the COVID virus and visits were few and far between.
Recently ( after my 180 days warranty was up) I was able to go back and this time the Costco audiologist was able to clear up the occlusion but has not been able to adjust the aids to allow me to get any use from them. Now if I want to hear and understand someone I have to take the aids out.
At the time of writing this post I have them in and can’t understand a word being said on the tv about 6 ft away.
I have an appointment tomorrow and I’m ready to give up on Costco but it probably means that I’m out about $3000 with absolutely no help.
I plan to pursue reimbursement through what ever channels are open to me.
Has anyone else had similar experience? Where you able to get any help from Costco or from the manufacturer?

Costco for most has been exemplary.
I would ask for a different fitter or if possible, try a different Costco.
With your hearing loss I would have recommended the Brio 4 with the 13 battery and earmolds. Your hearing loss is pretty bad, do you happen to know what your word recognition scores are?

Help from the manufacturer - not a chance. They did not recommend or fit the hearing aids, that falls on the fitter. Help from Costco - ? with all of the covid restrictions, maybe they will make an exception to their 180 day policy. Quite frankly though, there are many of the important speech sounds that you will never hear and be able to use. If you go for different instruments, be certain of your return privileges. If you have not investigated a cochlear implant, that would be my recommendation based solely on your audiogram and no other information. You have a very difficult loss to work with.

An update. I am pleased to report that Costco did refund for the Resound aids I had.
The audiologist was very receptive to the problems I have had and was willing to accommodate me.
She asked to try demo of 2 bte aids. The ones that I felt helped me a great deal were Phillips BTE PP.
since I would rather find HAs that will help rather than have an implant I decided to make one more attempt.
Since it has been well over a year since my last hearing test that will be the first step.
I appreciate all of the responses I have received and would welcome any comments about this choice.

Agree. I have the Brio 4’s after trialing the Preza’s. So much happier with these.

And yes, my Costco was cool about exchanging after the 3 month period as I told them before it was up that I was unhappy with the Prezas. They couldn’t get me in for an appt before the 3 months were up, but since I notified them before three months, they allowed it, no problem. They were extremely fair and reasonable about it.
