I think this large vented sleeve dome is a little bit uncomfortable but doesn’t seem to slide out. I have the larger tulips but they look pretty fragile to me. They are slightly borderline for my losses though. I sure did find the open bass oticon/philips dome very comfortable and never knew I had them in and they NEVER came out. The double bass domes on the other hand move move around and get mispositioned causing major humming at time until I got them repositioned. The Widex vented sleeves seem to get plugged with wax a the tips sometimes too.
I hear what you say re music, I watch a lot of live music/theatre and the sound is pretty incredible with my custom 440 Moments. I don’t usually have any frequency adjustments made-so long as the sensogram and feedback test are carried out with every fit/tip change. The feedback area tends to gravitate around the 2-4k area and if it’s available to you, the custom tip may help you here. I wouldn’t judge your speech recognition without having the sensogram & feedback calibration performed with the larger sleeve. It can affect my speech recognition by up to about 25% if this isn’t performed after changing the ear piece type or getting a new custom modelled. This will also ensure your speech in noise performs at optimal levels too.
Yes I thought this might be the case and will see audi next week for this and also see about the feedback. I can adjust the feedback out mostly with the EQ. Had to turn the left ear to -4 and right to -2 to lower wind and bike noise for my mtn bike. I know there’s some issue with my left ear and can see it in these adjustments but I made a custom mtn bike program in the app. I can DIY these but prefer to not do that at this point. My audi used the Widex fitment not Na-NAL2 and had NAL 2 in the Philips which was always way too loud and bright for me. I am amazed after hearing the hype about music to see that it’s true. Just can’t get the 3 thinner string to not sound distorted with the Philips and very sweet sounding with the Widex in an mode from universal to music and puresound. Not sure which is best yet but all very good.
So pleased you are enjoying it. Speech, music & sound are such an emotional and powerful thing to experience as clearly and naturally as we can. The Widex algorithm is so important as it enables the beauty of the full range of sound to come through. For me it’s always been about sticking exactly to the Widex set up (some dispensers are better than others at this) and where you get any fit issues/feedback not resolved between yourself & the dispenser, that they seek advice from Widex technical support who have always supported to get it in best possible set up.
Thanks. With so much hype out there you don’t know what to believe but Widex for music is very real for me. I tried very hard to get the Philips to sound right and ended up drastically reducing the gain until it was just barely helping me. Right out of box the Widex is really great at a very high gain level so the issue isn’t gain but distortion. On my Costco fitter really argued with me when I said it’s distortion. I’m just hoping I can get the speech up to par and settle on domes/custom molds…whatever that might be. I still wish there was a way to lower the gain on my voice and not talking loudly is my only option, lol, and it helps.
You may find this settles once you have the best fit for you. Unless the fitter will do a completely fresh set up later for you, don’t fine tune until you are happy with the fit. Otherwise you are shaping it to this fit and your sound is then potentially compromised in a new fit (which may have sorted it out for you without compromise). It may take a few attempts to get the fit right and a good dispenser should expect and support this. In the UK, Widex usually support 6 months of custom fit remodelling to allow plenty of time to get it right for you.
Thanks. I have 2 months at HearUSA, owned by WD Audiology. I gave up on this large sleeve dome. It continually slides out. I tried my Oticon open dome to see how it fit and it’s very tight and snapped on like the Philips. Put it in and pulled it out just fine. It’s the older open dome, not the open bass domes which are eve better but wanted to see if I had a feedback issue with most open one and I don’t. I doubt the audi will support this but maybe he can do and REM and setup with these anyway and just select the open Widex dome in the program. I’ll see today if this dome stays in place.
I graduated from closed dome (two tiny holes) to Power Receivers and 2 Power Domes. Feedback. Loud.
I wore one Power Dome by accident inside my right ear canal for almost a month and just had it removed. I’m back to closed dome because the Power Domes might take root if this happens again.
After feed back test and setup I’m healing better now. Let’s see how this goes.
