Widex SmartRIC aids now out

There doesn’t seem to be an off function in the app either.

I suppose they could have accommodated a button built into the mic cover, or on the back at the bottom like oticon.

The more I wear these, however, the more I like them. It really is a comfortable and attractive fit on the ear. The idea of marring it with a button makes me a bit sad. Maybe that’s how they felt, too. It’s kind of like a styletto that’s taking a bow. I like it better than the styletto.

There must be an another way to turn them off, so no button, ok so what about a tap function? Can’t be just the charger, that would be a step backwards.

Turns out you can stick a magnet to them and that will turn them off.

With the moments I can mute the aids with the TONELINK app. May be able to connect to this app to do it if no other option?

LOL!!! Magnet ON/OF - and definitely NOT included in the kit when you buy a pair.

Why do I feel that buying a pair of HAs is like whack-a-mole? You no sooner get SPEECH CLARITY but you lose BATTERY OPERATED. Or you buy AI in a pair of aids that CAN’T BE TURNED OFF. Or how about a RECHARGEABLE pair of aids whose CHARGER NEEDS UNANNOUNCED SW UPDATES OR IT STOPS RECHARGING? Or you buy AIDS THAT STREAM WITH PHONE but it ONLY STREAMS TO ONE EAR (cuz let’s face it, deaf folks need to keep their frustration level up and work HARD to hear on the phone).

I’m gonna mail a set of crystal, sieved wineglasses to the prez of these companies, so they can toast their new releases and successes even as wine dribbles down their tuxedo shirts. :neutral_face:

I think the issue is the way HA’s are sold. We’re not the customer. The firm dispensing the hearing aids is the customer. It’s kinda like multi level marketing.

Gotta keep those customers happy. Make more sales.

I had the SmartRic 440 for nearly 2 weeks and just returned it. While speech clarity was great and battery life was amazing, the streaming quality was the absolute worse. With how many calls I do on my phone + videos + music, it didn’t make sense for me to keep it.

WOW - Great feedback! Cuz I was looking at a sleek Widex SmartRIC yesterday at my audi’s (it was set into a special display). Yeah, that is a SEXY looking hearing aid, but with no buttons whatsoever on the AID, I wondered how practical it would be in my real life. I’m offen getting a phone call with phone in completely different room. It’s not like I WEAR A PHONE like some kind of necklace. I just don’t see the practicality of having NO buttons to do one thing on those aids without a phone.

Streaming would be the nail in the coffin’s lid for me. Gotta have that with the phone calls I make throughout the day. Thanks for sharing!

I use the comdex with the Moment RICS, this uses a different signal type so no streaming issues. I think the Widex Sound Assist (can be used for phone, tv & as a remote mic) would do this too.

The SmartRIC has a remote control which enables the user to adjust volume and change programs. It’s small and easily fits in a pocket or on a key chain. I had something similar with a pair of Bernafon hearing aids years ago. They also had a rocker switch on the hearing aids for adjustments, but I actually preferred the remote.

I currently wear Whisper hearing aids, which do not have any switch or button on the hearing aids themselves. Adjustments are made from a separate unit which is carried in the pocket or left on a table or elsewhere nearby. Again I have had no problem with this system. Although it’s not for everyone, I think that switches on the hearing aid are frankly not for everyone either - especially for people with dexterity problems.

Ah that is a good point! Options is what we need! And finger press, phone or remote are all good ones.

I have to chime in, going on a month now with my SmartRIC, the streaming is perfectly acceptable for me, I can place and take calls just fine, with perfect clarity.

The portable charger gave me 3 weeks of charges before it went down to 1 LED of 3. Pretty impressive.

However, for folks who like buttons, or like fiddling with their settings a lot, yeah, there are no buttons. Mine did not come with a remote, but the times I don’t have my iPhone nearby are pretty rare, and the times I feel the need to tweak at settings even rarer.

Thank you, that’s one thing I had not realized. I am currently considering my first HA options and the audiologist and I narrowed it down to the Widex SmartRIC and Oticon Intent (for several reasons) and I don’t have a smartphone, never mind having to carry one with me all day! While a remote is always an option I still don’t like the idea. That narrows it down considerably for me.

Addendum: I thought I should pass on my experience. After doing a side-by-side comparison with 3 HA contenders pre-callibrated to my profile, I selected the SmartRIC for the better initial sound experience in spite of what I initially said above, sound being most important. Got the remote to go with, not having a phone. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to connect to my Samsung S7 FE tablet AND stream without much issues at all and I must say the charge capacity and portable charger are fantastic. So far a very positive experience and would say the lack of button is not an issue for me as I feared initially. I like fiddling with settings, but not when on the go. Remote works for me just fine.

I suppose that hearing aid is the new Widex!!!

Looks like it! And if one can literally DIVE into summer, I’d be the first one to jump in a pool and prove them WRONG. :poop:
