The Set to target dialog box opens. Select the check boxes for one or both instruments and click Base on target. If you want to base the new prescription on P1 [the default fitting rationale] instead, click Base on P1

The following settings will be set to target:

  • Gain
  • MPO

In my ignorance I would have thought that the target gains were those prescribed according to the fitting rationale. How might the what is the source of the target gains, and why would target and P1 gains differ?

Thought: might this be used for altering programs other than P1?

Setting the hearing aid to target is basing it on what your audiogram and fitting formula think it needs.

With Oticon and even Phonak, you can set to target only on one program if wanted or all programs.

Setting to target might be needed if you’ve made adjustments and want to revert back to target levels.

Here’s the wording for the Oticon Genie 2 about it. It uses the word “recalculate” which is easier to infer than the word “set” that the HearSuite tool uses. As @Zebras explained, it’s basically re-prescribing the gain curves and the MPO again in case you need to “reset” or “recalculate” it to the original prescription after you’ve modified it, so you don’t need to manually re-enter the original values one by one even if you have a snapshot of the original values.
