UV Sanitzer big enough for phone or larger?

I’m thinking with all the excitement these days I should look into an ultraviolet sanitizer/“sterilizer” for not only my hearing aids, but also my phone and other items about that size. Or even bigger? Anyone recommend a good general purpose one that’s not cheap junk? What features are important? Timer with auto turn off seem like something essential.

There are some on Amazon, but most that would fit a phone are unavailable with the panic rush! Just like hand sanitizer, isopropyl alcohol, etc. :face_with_thermometer:

I can fit my iPhone 6 into my Dry & Store global with a bit of carful positioning.

??? Are you in the habit of lending your phone to people, so it gathers germs from others? If not, what’s the point?

The hoopla is over germs from one person to another - like on the shopping cart handles at stores, the stair rails on public staircases, the buttons on elevators - things lots of people touch.

If you are thinking you touch all those other places, then touch your phone which next goes to your face . . . at this point with the price gouging and shortages, it will be easier (and less expensive) to just stop touching other people!

The first one is the one I use. I paid a little over $30 for it. It is now closer to $80, probably because of the current coronavirus panic. You can call it price gouging if you want, I call it supply and demand. In any case the other two options are a little cheaper.

Thanks! I looked at Phonesoap and there are some great alternatives here.

There are special sanitizers for phones.
Here’s an example:

A great option.
There are also bags if you need more space

Thanks. I think I lean more toward the “lightbulb” style versus the “LED” style. The first link looks like the lighbulb variation, but possibly only one, whereas the competition has two (one on each side).

Style-wise, those look like ripoffs of the Homedics stuff.

Cramming your phone in probably won’t work as well as you want. The light has to reach all areas, so it either needs multiple lights or a way to reflect it around. HAs are small, so the light hits them pretty well.
Also, although phones should be made with UV resistant materials, they may not hold up as well to high exposures. Most people really don’t leave their phones in direct sunlight for extended periods so they don’t get too hot to touch or overheat. They’re probably fine, but just may not designed for that.
I just wipe my phone down with sanitizer Occasionally. That also cleans off the fingerprint smudges and the crud that accumulates between the phone and bumper case that UV light won’t help with.

I just came across this from Hammacher Schlemmer: A handheld UV light stick for sanitizing surfaces. Looks interesting.

They also have a Cell Phone disinfecting box: The 10 Minute Smartphone Sanitizer - Hammacher Schlemmer

and a larger disinfecting chamber:

The chamber looks interesting, but the wand is an accident waiting to happen. Other notable items on that page too:

I like that the chamber has bulbs, rather than LEDs, but they are both on the same side, which is a shame.

I got one recently that features wireless charging. I have a Google Pixel phone so I just put it in the sanitizer and it charges while it cleans. Takes 5 minutes to clean and it beeps when it’s done which is nice. It also has a magnetic shutoff when the lid is opened so if I need my phone it shuts the UV light off.

here is the link if you want to check it out. hope this helps

I bought a similar unit from monoprice.com . It’s is the gadgets category (that’s just how they do things over there, it’s not an editorial comment I don’t think). It’s only $29 but doesn’t have charging I don’t think. I’ve had it for a month and haven’t even tried it yet.

Here is one option that is for phones and larger items:
