Starkey Edge AI 24 bluetooth quirks

I’m just picked up my new Starkey Edge AI 24 ITC and have some bluetooth quirks compared to my old Phonak Virtos.

In the Android settings of my phone, pairing was a snap. But I’m getting all phone system messages directly to my HAs and I’m not sure I want that. So I disconnected my HAs in the phone’s bluetooth settings, but the HA continually automatically re-connect. So I have 2 questions…

  • how can I prevent the Starkeys from automatically reconnecting?
  • how can I prevent system messages from going to my HAs, i.e I have a task that announces the time on the hour. I don’t need for that to be fed to my HAs. If I ask Google something, the reply is to my HAs, I’d just as soon have it announced on my phone speaker.

Any help greatly appreciated.

EDIT : I just want to add that in “Sound and Vibration” settings on my phone, Audio will play on is set to “Mark H/As”. If I select this and the select “This phone” instead, the setting won’t change. It remains on Mark H/As.

You didn’t say what version of Android you are using. But with Android 15, to get the phone to stop automatically connecting try the the following:
1 Open up settings
2. Select connected devices
3. On the bottom of the screen you will see connection preferences. Touch that.
4. Select Bluetooth
5. Switch off the toggle for automatically turn on tomorrow.

I am using Android 15, and I followed what you wrote above. But the only toggle I have says “Use Bluetooth”. Is this the toggle you meant? But this turns off bluetooth altogether.

At step 4., my phone shows a “Use Bluetooth” toggle switch.

It also shows a “Automatically turn on tomorrow” toggle switch. Underneath, it says “If you turn off Bluetooth, it turns on again the next day.”

This makes sense if you have Bluetooth turned on. After all, you want your calls and so on to go through your Bluetooth hearing aids.

I don’t have the “Automatically turn on tomorrow” toggle on my phone. Also, this isn’t something I’d want, as I use bluetooth for other things, like my truck and my watch.

You can go to settings.
Choose apps.
Choose MyStarkey
Turn off notifications.
That may do what you want.

I want my calls to go through my Bluetooth hearing aids, but I don’t need for my notifications to go to my hearing aids.

Well that turn off all notifications or just the ones from Starkey?

The alternative is to go to each individual app and put the notification on silent.

Well all I can tell you is that my Pixel 6a has that toggle switch. Maybe someone else has an idea if you state what make and model your phone is.

What notifications from Starkey.

You tell me. I don’t use Starkey hearing aids. I always thought that when you enter an individual app settings and turn off notifications, It only applied to the app.

I just did it.
With notifications off my calls still ring in my ears.
Had my wife text me.
With notifications on are off it does not beep in my ears.
I recall it did sometimes.
I have a Pixel watch which let’s me know when I have a notification.

Some additional information:

  • I’m using a Motorola Razr 50 Ultra
  • I figured out how to get the HAs to stop autoconnecting. I have LE Audio when I go into Device details of the HAs on the phone settings. Turning off LE Audio keeps the HAs from automatically reconnecting to bluetooth.
  • If LE Audio is selected there is no streaming (audio) from the phone to the HAs. LE Audio is for talk to talk. It is supposed to make for much clearer phone conversations.
  • There is no way (at least I haven’t figured it out) to only have select items go to the HAs. So if I want my phone calls to go directly to my HAs, then I also get mail notifications, SMS, etc. I could turn off audio notifications for these individual items, but I’d rather not.

I’m going to look into LE Audio more. I’m not sure why streaming won’t work when using LE Audio. Thanks for all the help.

I’m running Android 15. When the notification appears in the status bar, press and hold. That should bring up the App notification settings for that application. I have the majority of my apps to deliver the notification silently (turn off the “sound and vibration”).

You can also access this setting by going into Settings | Apps and selecting the app. Or globally by going into Settings | Sound and Vibration.

Personally, I prefer the app based settings. There are some apps that want to get the notification on like phone, text messages and weather. Other apps like new or information, I want to see the alert on my phone, but don’t need a sound to play.

This might be my solution. Now if I can figure out why streaming or music doesn’t play through my HAs when LE Audio is selected. Toggle this off and music plays fine.
