Speech in noisy environments with Phonak P70-312

Hello! I recently started a trial with the Phonak Paradise 70-312. Everything has been great except for hearing and understanding speech in noisy situations. Voices tend to get buried in background noise, and I can’t understand what people are saying even when they’re very close to me.
I’ve tried using the Restaurant program in the MyPhonak app, as well as creating and adjusting my own programs in the app. It’s been very frustrating, because I really like these hearing aids, but the inability to understand speech in even moderately noisy environments is a major concern for me. I go out a lot and rely on good hearing in those situations for my job.
Do you have any suggestions on how these hearing aids could be adjusted to improve speech clarity in noisy environments? Or should I consider trying a different Phonak model?
I would really appreciate all your tips and opinions on this!

The Paradise is older technology. I’m guessing newer technology like Phonak Infinio Sphere is cost prohibitive. If it’s speech in noise with just one other person, picking up a PartnerMic (preferably used) can be quite effective. A Roger On iN can do better in a group situation and is not horribly expensive if purchased used. Speech in Noise is challenging for all of us.

Thanks for the reply! Do you know if Phonak Infinite Sphere is adequate for severe to profound loss?

Should be as long as it’s not extremely profound. They can be fitted with UP receivers in a custom mold that can generate a lot of gain.

Even the best hearing aids on the market now with the latest AI will only get you to 13 dB help in noise. Almost everyone with moderate to profound loss needs more help than that (up to 25 dB) in noise. You would likely benefit from wireless audio like a remote mic to send sound straight to your ears. And ideally you mute the mics on your aids when using the remote mic to keep noise from sneaking in. Sadly it still won’t be perfect. You also need captions on your phone, perseverance to keep showing up and acceptance.

Which acoustic coupling do you have with your Paradises? If you have domes, SlimTips/cShells/earmolds with properly as small as possible diameter vent could be major upgrade.

Did you have REM?

Have you used the Speech in Noise program with Speech Focus (it’s mainly front directionality) set to max?

Entering your audiogram in you profile settings can help to give you more accurate advices.
