Specsavers hearing aids

I recently had Specsavers fit me with therebasic hearing aid provided by the government. I would not advise anyone to get theses as they are poor quality. They are a no name brand. I could have revived better quality hearing aid ( known brand) from other sources but did not know at the time and am now unfortunately stuck with these for five years. My advice… shop around, I wish I had!!

Welcome!

Where is this? In the UK?

There’s really only about six hearing aid makers, trading comparable products under dozens of brand-names. SpecSavers’ “NHS” brand is surely one of the Big Name makers at the price NHS will pay. It may even BE a standard model, without badges, maybe in a different shape so it does not compete against the higher-price aids sold to individuals.

What is “low quality”? The door falls off? Or “it sounds bad”? How long have you been hard-of-hearing?

Today’s aid sound is almost infinitely adjustable. However it does take time to re-integrate those sounds you have not heard in a while. After 400 hours of use I am just starting to get it together.

So you were not given a trial period during which these could be returned? What kind of govt provided hearing service would FORCE a person to pay for and use aids that are not even acceptable? I don’t know if you’re up to it, but I’d sure go back, plead my case and not rest till the situation was resolved in my favor.

Why buy a rubber crutch when sturdy aluminum ones are out there? I feel you were taken advantage of, and as the consumer should have the final say. GOOD LUCK to you and let us know the outcome.

If travelingon88: lives in the uk you can get a hearing aid to meet your needs but they have a limit on what they offer and you can get a referral to specsavers for a hearing test and hearing aids if need but they will only cover i think upto what meets your needs at that time

If you reside in Australia you have a 90 day return period to take those devices back once fitted and you can either try something else in the range or return it and go elsewhere. This information is available on the website. If you have been fitted with a fully subsidised device then it would either be a Resound, Unitron or a Signia product and are the same models as other providers supply, however Specsavers offers a RIC in all brand, which most providers will generally not do at the fully subsidised levels. Anyhow, if you have passed your 90 return period, what are the problems you are experiencing and have you been back to see your clinician to discuss your issues?

Are your aids NHS aids fitted by Specsavers or are they Specsavers basic hearing aids.
My first NHS aids fitted by Specsavers were made by Siemens, three years later they fitted me with Phonak aids. I’ve never heard of Specsavers fitting unbranded NHS aids, although I appreciate different areas have different policies.
You say you are stuck with them, did you pay any money?
