So Long Cochlear Implants?

I was guessing he’s a Holliday-- or Halliday, spelling and grammar aren’t his strong suits-- investor or dealer.

Boy there are some board members here who shoot first and think later. Rather sad.

Halliday AI powered glasses developed by Gyges Labs. Google it and then learn something. Or play spelling games.

To Astro I’ll post when ever I want. Last I checked you didn’t own this chat board. But cute picture.

And Kemp - you’ve been harping on the same subject or years. It’s getting real old, like I’m considering a CI but just can’t pull the trigger. Year in - year out.

Thank goodness there are some posters here that see the “Forest for the Trees”.

CI and Music don’t mix. Never have - never will. Though Astro would have you believe differently. HA

The problem is i do see it and it is going to bite us and possibly destroy us.

AI technology is being used by students for help with their homework, used by job searchers to polish their resume. Even hackers are using AI technology to scam people’s bank accounts, etc. l wished AI technology weren’t born.

I love the idea of Smart glasses. But, I don’t see much benefit from them in a noisy restaurant or family dinner at home, with everyone talking over everyone else. If its anything like what happens when I tried a live transcriber on my phone, you just end up with sentence fragments from everyone in one long stream of consciousness. One on one would be great though, for things like doctors appointment or border security etc.

I agree AI is going to be the death of the human race if we aren’t careful. AI drones scare me. As do smart bombs, and Robots. AI in general is making humans less able to think for themselves. We are already seeing it in the lack of common sense and the ability of some many to reason for themselves.

My AI girlfriend begs to differ…

SayAgain3, the AI speech to text has improved but it will need to get better before it replaces the real hearing mechanism. AI fails when there’s background noise or if trying to transcribe the voice for someone with a speech disability. As you may know, some with hearing loss at birth do not have “normal” speech. I have welcomed the improvement of AI but it needs to get better. You don’t mention if you have a hearing loss in this message but I’m guessing you probably don’t or have only a mild loss. Someone with a mild to moderate loss may be able to fill in the blanks when the AI captions fail. Those of us with severe to profound loss, will not be able to fill in the blanks and are no better off with the current AI technology.

Do you have a cochlear implant? I do. I listen to music all day long. Just finished Ariana Grande’s latest (meh, 3.5/5 stars), and now I’m on to Chappell Roan. Loving it so far.

Remind me, do you have a CI?

I did a quick count. Not one single post (out of 30) is in favor of your “smart glasses” over a CI. There are many of us who think they will have a use, but not as a CI replacement at this time, or the near future.

So who are these posters that support you? The forest/tree analogy? Do you wonder why EVERYONE HERE says you’re jumping the gun? Are we all dinosaurs? Or perhaps we’re just more realistic than you are.

Again, we’re rehashing the same old tired diatribes you post all the time. /unsubscribe/

Who said Smart glasses with speech to text display could or will replace hearing aids. I sure didn’t. Does anyone read on this chat board??? I said Smart glasses with speech to text/captioning is a major plus for those who are deaf or severely hard of hearing. Like HA along with Smart glasses will work better than just HA alone.

I also said there might be some folks out there that might want to hold off a future CI, until they have tested some of these new 2025 Smart glasses coming out. Can’t hurt.

Who said Smart glasses with speech to text display could or will replace hearing aids.

Maybe the thread title?

I see the smart glasses as an intermediate step between conventional hearing aids and Cochlear Implant. I have a CI and, as said before, I listen to music and enjoy all the other sounds I haven’t heard for years, and enjoy natural conversation without needing to see the text.
