yes i know they can and that may be what is going on with the volume messing up. i have to see her in 2 weeks so i have a list of all the issues.

the funny thing is when i got the first pair that audi told me the phonak v10 aids i have are better than the signia ax5 aids are. so i wonder if that may also be some of the issue is that i’m looking for something better and i have the same or a bit worse?

I would say that any HAs are only as good as capabilities of audi handling them. Signias have a wide array of options and big potential, just need someone who is capable of leveraging it.

Agtree with Reginald. Maybe give your audi a heads up via gmail or a phone call in terms of all the issues that you’re having. Also: it’s possible to audis to get a Signia audi on the phone during a visit so that the two of them and you can brainstorm together and fix the issues. Also, call that help line! no appt. necessary.

Signias AX, are very focused on getting voice in front, at all cost, because that’s what’s the most important to many. And I guess all HAs are similar in that regard.
But I’ve found that it had very muffling effect on environment and it resulted in very tunnel like hearing for me, which I’ve found uncomfortable.
I’ve set them to be dumber and more open and trust my brain to do the heavy lifting, and that’s what works for me currently.

That “adaptive volume” settings is for environmental sounds (ambient noise) so would only affect the stream if your using headphones or in a noisy environment, and yes it’s absolute crap anyway and should be turned off regardless.

@Reginald have you tried the directional microphone adjustment through the app,one thing is the microphones can be adjusted within the software to suit how you like to hear, you could ask your audiologist to change how they are set up.

I don’t have to, I have latest Connexx and Noah, plus have months of testing and fiddling behind me.
Signias App isn’t very fast to open and changing mics every time you need to is annoying.
Beamforming on them isn’t very good anyway.
I’ve created programs with configurations that I need.
Most of it is only useful in moderately to very noisy environments, and it should be available only then. The HAs aren’t that smart yet, unfortunately.

yes the focus does not do anything. yesterday i turned it on in the restaurant and focused it to the front in as narrow beam as i could and i could hear the people ne back of me better than if i had just left it alone. i have tested it at home also and the focus did not make any difference. plus with the signia when i hear words i get a buzzing in my ears for every word. the audi turned down all the settings and it did go down but not away, i’m telling you there is something wrong with these aids i have phonak and 2 pair of moxies and i have never had the same issues with those aids. so like i said when i see her i will see if she can do a firmware update. if not then when i get a programmer i will do it myself. i have did that on the moxies and the phonaks.

i put the phonak’s back in and all the issues went away for now

Also, You might be not aware of that (I wasn’t until months in) but clicking on the person in the middle turns auto focus mode off, and sets mics to omndirectional mode.

I see that your audiogram is done in 5 decibel ranges (because that’s faster). With Signia’s software Connexx you can make a more accurate one, with 1dB ranges. It helped me tremendously, to get a better sound out of them.

yes i know that one, if you click auto, it gets smaller and if you click on the right left or front it sets an arrow that lets zoom to the front more. mine does not work at all that setting does nothing for me.

i have signa program fitting software i just need the noah programmer now. i’m working on that now
i think the audi did not do the sound recover very well. she turned down all the settings and did not take the settings that i have over 95db loss and move them into a lower range. i did that on the phonak fitting and that did a much better job. it changed some of the familiar sounds until i got use to the new sounds. so when i get the programmer i will rest those sounds to the lower hz. and see if ti does a better job.

Well something is not right, it works quite well for me, as in as you change to narrow you should notice less “background chatter” you need to check how your doing this, in a bar or restaurant you need to face the person speaking to you, then narrow the beam, this does not increase or decrease gains, so don’t look for this.

As a long time DIY’r and user of 7AX I’m thinking your not doing something quite right, while connected and programming, if your not hearing a noticeable difference between each settings,

Once connected the App is open in the background, it seems just as quick as any other apps I’ve used(bar my Phonak, horrible user experience that one) again you shouldn’t have to be changing all the time, just in those environments that bother you otherwise for me anyway I just keep it on Autopilot ; )
And yes your right ,there’s no such thing as “smart” in HAs, they are still dumb!

Well something is not right, but as I mentioned you need to have someone in front of you talking, this is when you narrow the beam and focus your attention on the speaker.

Your HAs are not set up correctly, you do need to go back to your audiology clinic and Relay your experience so they can try and sort these issues out.

Sounds like they did, that buzzing your talking about it’s quite possible that it’s set to aggressively.

Here’s some user guides that I think you guys need to check out, you need to get some understanding of what does what and why before just jumping in and making adjustments, so much to get right before doing this, acoustics, rationale/algorithm to use, using in-situ etc.

thanks guys i have been programming my own aids now for 10 years but i do not have the programer yet for the signia’s when i get it iw biet i will have them tuned in fast. i figure the app is not a real good representation of what i have going on and i just about never use it. yesterday i had a person setting in front of me at the restaurant and yes i focused the aids to as narrow a beam as i could and that did not do anything for letting me hear her better than the people in back of me. so like i said that app is just not able do do much i tested that focus a few times at home as well.

last night one aid turned off i checked the battery with the app it said one battery was dead and one had 80% both wer new 2 days ago. so i switched them and yes the dead battery followed in the app. so about 15 minutes later as i was heading to bed i checked the battery again and both were at 80% go figure. this morning they were at 90% but i figure that was due to being off all night nd now one is 40% and one is 60% BT connected.

anyway i will muddle thru them for now and at a worse case scenario i will set them on the shelf and wait for the phonak’s to die and then i have a new pair to figure out.

I don’t have the same issues as @corvairbob does. I do see the difference between settings and programs.
It’s just that defaults and autopilot weren’t good enough for the environments I’m in, most of the time.
I prefer to have fine-grained control over my HAs, rather than rely on auto mode, because it just isn’t smart enough imho.
And as you said, I shouldn’t have to go into app and slap it, every time it messes up.

i just got a programmer. i got the gn one and found the program to redo the firmware so it will program the phonak and signia and maybe more. so it is due to me Friday and if it works i will stop back and let you guys know. my hearing aids today were pinching my ears real good and then they stopped. it must be that automatic program that is not very good. also i understand there is a firmware update for them that is said to address that issue so maybe the programmer will allow the update, i know the cube2 would let me update phonak and the cube1 let me do a complete firmware on the moxies so i guess i will see. thanks

Ok so you got the Airlink 2, (I use this one as well) so yeah once updated it’ll program just like the Himsa Noahlink wireless, so you won’t have any problems programming any of the wireless from ReSound and just about all the later models from the manufacturer’s, Widex is a little different, but that won’t bother you as you mentioned Signia and Phonak.

ok i have the airlink 2 in front of me and i did the firmware update, that took a few tries. i had to got to noah and get 2 drivers and then it took… it is connected to my signia aids and it shows the correct serial numbers. now i went into the program and looked at the settings. this program is a bit different than the target program, but some is similar. anyway i want to move the sound recover down some. the left line is just under 3k and the right line is just about at 5k. in the target i have the left line a bit lower. and the right a bit higher. i have the left line down to 2k and the right line is close to 8k so that i can grab all that sound and i do not know where it goes but i hear good with the phonak aids. so if i can figure out how to move these lines it may take that buzzing out of my ears. then i will work on the own speech as i hear myself real good. but one step as the buzzing hurts my ears

if i can figure out how to post photos i will do some snips and post them…
