Should I get hearing amplifiers instead of hearing aids?

I can’t find any information online for ReSound Canta. I even went to the ReSound webside and they have lots of models but I didn’t see any named Canta. Are you certain that is what they are called?

You win. I give up. I’m glad you’re able to hear.

Yes, Canta 2 is the name. They dont make them anymore. That is the one problem with used HAs, support lasts at most 5 years while the HAs last 30 years. When a new model comes out support for the older models disappear. But the older models wont open your garage door or flush your toilet from the living-room. Kinda like cars, after 5 years you are supposed to buy a new one because your old one is a junker…LOL

hass6744, its not about “winning” its about education. If you havent learned then we both loose. You loose money because you cannot swallow your pride, and I loose because I havent accomplished my mission. The winners are the sellers of the $6000 HAs.

You don’t get it. Hearing loss is unique to every person. If amplifiers work for you great. But they don’t work for everyone. Some people have more severe hearing loss. Some people have more severe speech comprehension loss. An amplifier for a great many people would be a total waste of time. Is a ton of money ridiculous? To a certain respect it may be. But a lot of people will pay a ton of money to be able to hear. To be able to carry on a conversation in a noisy environment. To be able to Converse with people they love or wirk with. work.with. An amplifier works for you. You’re very fortunate. But don’t be making general statements about what a rip off hearing can be when there are people out there that need all those extras in order to get by. I can’t hear the TV, I can’t understand the car radio, and can’t carry on a conversation in a noisy room. He’ll I struggle carrying on a conversation one on one I have a quiet room. I ask my wife to help me and she does but she shouldn’t have to. I also can’t hear on a phone and even with an amplifier I struggle to understand. You’re very fortunate that it works for you but everyone’s loss is unique to that individual. Even the same hearing aids sound different to each user. You read about it on thus forum everyday. So some people have no alternative and have to spend the big bucks I think order to hear. To claim its a total rip off is ridiculous because it’s not something you need. Thus is the attitude I expect to hear from someone with normal hearing who just doesn’t understand the complexities of hearing loss. I’m surprise when I hear this stuff from an individual who has a loss. I’ve said it until I’m blue in the face. What works for you doesn’t work for everyone. And some people need all those bells and whistles in order to communicate in the hearing word. Unfortunately they have to pay through the nose to accomplish it. But a cheap $50 amplifier doesn’t work for everyone and I don’t want a lot of cases just makes matters worse. You don’t need the more expensive aid. You’re very fortunate. But some do and to say they’re nothing but a rip off because you don’t need them seems a bit naive and self centered. I don’t want to be rude and you certainly have a right to your opinion. But some people have to pay the big bucks because they need all the extras or spend the rest of their lives not hearing or communicating.

My current hearing aids only work for me when the are set to the TV setting. That setting emphasizes the speech range. When I turn up the treble and md-range in my car radio I can hear it pretty well. Same with the TV at home. I don’t know if it will be the same with amplifiers, but I would like to try amplifiers with equalizer functions and of course Bluetooth.

Just for clarity, I have gotten very accustomed to wearing my hearing aids and I am looking for amplifiers that go behind the ear with a tube that goes in the ear. I am not interested in amplifies than have a lanyard around the neck or headphone type amplifiers…

You have never read anything I have written, have you? In no way have I ever said amplifiers worked and you are so hung up on something I never said that you cannot learn. I give up on you. You need glasses so you can read, not HAs. Go away, I will never be able to change your mind?

I would prefer it if respondents offered help with my question instead of bickering. I would like to try Amplifiers that fit over the ear and have equalizers and Bluetooth. Does anyone have experiences with any of those that are reasonably priced and that worked for them? I am tech savvy and don’t want to pay an audiologist to adjust true hearing aids when I can adjust what works for me myself.

You said expensive aids were a rip off and I said they’re not if the person needs the features that come with the expensive aids. But I agree. Enough is enough. Enjoy your lexis.

Pending on your hearing loss amplifiers might just work. Sharing your audiogram would help us help you.
But, most of us with hearing loss need real deal hearing aids. Our hearing losses are too irregular to use a simple hearing amplifier.

If you are a Costco member they will do a free audiogram for you. That will give you a much better understanding as to how well a hearing amplifier gain curve will fit your loss. It may fit very well, or it may not fit well at all. They offer a fairly crude fixed solution that works for some, but not all.

Unfortunately, I am not a Costco member, but I guess I could see about becoming one to gain access to that service.

If I join Costco will they give me an audio gram so I can share it?

I m not sure you have to be a member to buy aids from them. You need to check that out.

Assuming you’re in the US, a membership is required for them to do an audiogram. There is no charge for the audiogram and they will give you a copy. Just about positive membership is required to buy hearing aids. It is not necessary to maintain membership to receive service on the hearing aids.
