Not sure what you’re saying about microphone and hands free streaming. The ONE does not support hands free streaming by itself, but with a Phone Clip+ it should and I would think a MultiMic would work too. Really hard to guess when phones will support BT 5.2. I’d say there’s a decent chance the iPhone 13 might. More confident of iPhone 14.

Thanks for asking to clarify. Phonak hearing aids allow for hands free calling without accessories because the classic Bluetooth specification is used. Bluetooth 5.2 Low Energy Audio will allow for Resound and any hearing aids to use hands-free calling. Yes, I’m aware of accessories supporting that, but it really makes a big difference to me when there’s support on the hearing aid to speak into it. So, Phonak has this, but since I have a Cochlear device, I use Resound hearing aids and they do not since the existing specification does not allow for that. This is one of the benefits of the new technology. But in order to support this specific benefit the hearing aid needs to be equipped to handle it (by having it on the hearing aid to speak into), and according to a Resound rep, that won’t be the case for the ONE, so hopefully future devices will. I personally would be really appreciative. I realize not everyone wants to use it but enough people do.

After having the Phonak Marvel aids and real deal hands free phone calls I sure miss that with Cochlear implants. It took a few mess ups walking away from the phone to realize I had to have the phone in front of my face. Would love to see Cochlear and other manufacturers join the hands free phone call route. It really is nice.

Yeah, but I’m hoping the next generation of Resound will have this functionality. Oh! I found that the bluetooth website has the list of types of Bluetooth supported by each device. It mentions 5, 5.1, 5.2, etc. But doesn’t mention LE Audio (at least at this point). My thought was that LE Audio may not be supported by a 5.2 product by default, it’s by choice. Maybe I’m wrong. The Resound ONE lists 5.2 though

Interesting that the ONE is listed as having 5.2 support even though it will require a firmware update to get 5.2. Maybe this firmware update is only for the LE Audio form of 5.2?

Good find! From a quick search, it looks like Resound is the only HA manufacturer that claims BT 5.2. Although I love speculating about this kind of stuff, I don’t think it’s wise to base purchase decisions on it. There’s just too much we don’t know.

Actually I believe the Kanso 2 CP1150 is the next generation processor with room for firmware updates. The Nucleus 7 CP1000 is due for generation update pretty soon.
Note the model numbers of these processors. The next Nucleus 8 just might be the CP1100.

LE Audio is not part of the Bluetooth core. It requires 5.2 but it’s not part of it. We’ve been arguing back and forth about whether BT 5.2 + firmware upgradeable = future LE Audio. My guess is not necessarily. It’s just a guess though. I did find some product specifications (can’t remember which family of products) from Qualcomm. Previous generation of product was Bluetooth 5.2. Current generation was Bluetooth 5.2 plus LE Audio. For what that’s worth.

Every product you find now that claims compatibility with LE Audio will require an update to achieve that because LE Audio is still under development (no final spec yet).

Things I’m very unclear about: 1) Is LE Audio the same as LC3? I think of LC3 as a codec, similar (at least in ways) to A2DP. 2) I think of the codec as the software technique to “compress” (jeez, we use that word in a lot of different ways!) the information in the sound, but I fully admit that I truly don’t get this stuff.

LC3 is a codec and it’s just one part of LE Audio. You need a codec of some kind (to COmpress and DECompress the music) but it doesn’t need to be LC3. LE Audio will accommodate other codecs (AptX, AAC etc). LC3 happens to be the mandatory one. It must be included but the user is free to use any another codec that the device manufacturer chooses to include. LC3 is not limited for use with LE Audio either. A manufacturer might choose to include it for use with A2DP (Classic Audio).

A2DP is the ‘Classic’ equivalent of LE Audio. It’s a bunch of specifications including one mandatory codec (SBC).

Greetings. New here. Looing for answers you surley cannot get from Resound, Verizon or Samsung.
Recently purchased S21Ultra, upgraded from 9+. (which did what s21 will not).
Everything works great on S21 with the issue of sound except volume between Bluetooth and Resound hearing aids on Notifications, Alarm, System sounds. Media, websites all play loud and clear.
Just cannot raise volume on the system sounds through hearing aids. Been through all settings with no change. Other Bluetooth devices are also clear and loud on Media so the issue is between Resound hearing aids an Samsung Bluetooth. Anyone with a solution or ideas , I thank you for your time and trouble.

Pretty convinced there is no setting in your hearing aids that can alter notification, alarm and system sounds. However, there should be the ability on your phone to alter the volume on at least some of these sounds. I have a Nokia and can alter Alarm volume, but apparently not notification volume. However, there are a bunch of different notification sounds I can choose. So, I would suggest going into your sound settings on your phone and “poke around” and see what you can find.

Nope. That was adjusted maximum first alterations. Clarifying phone works great on volume on its own. The Bluetooth connection to hearing aids volume on notifications sounds, alarm, system low. Hearing aids can be adjusted but on app but when phone is idle they are too loud. Hearing aids should not have to be altered on volume. Other blogs are reporting low volume not hearing aid specific.

Thanks though. One of the temp fix was to download specific tone with increased volume. Definitely helped.

Just found this “old” post of mine. Although Samsung said the above, I believe only S21 Ultra supports BT 5.2.

Yes… I think this is correct. I recently got an Ultra so I should be good. However, I guess it will be a while before any new aids also have BT 5.2.

As I understand it , existing aids can’t be firmware upgraded to 5.2 so I will have to wait at least 2-3 years (or longer hopefully) for my aids to need replacing. By that time I expect to be on a new phone too.

Unfortunately for me, 5.2 capability of my current phone gives me no advantage…. (sigh). Please correct me if I am wrong and make my day!

Oticon say that the More is firmware upgradeable to LE Audio. GE Resound One… possibly.

I emailed someone (a long time ago) who had connections with Oticon and they said that the engineers had hoped their Oticon Mores would be forward-compatible with 5.2, but it turned out this would not be possible.

The Resound ONE is the only hearing aid listed on bluetooth.com Find a Product that has 5.2 and they have a vague reference to being forward-compatible in their literature. So, we shall see how it unfolds.
