Roger On as directional mic?

Hello @maggie07 Yes, I believe it will work, but you need other intermediatory devices, Like a Roger NeckLoop, if your aids have Telecoil, Roger Mylink I believe also works, there will be shoes, that can be used, with certain other manufacturers aids, that have battery doors…TBH, I know absolutely zero, about some of these devices, but I am sure if you google it, you should get some answers… Sorry, I can’t be more helpful. @Zebras might be familiar with connecting Oticon aids to Roger ALD’s, I believe Ruth had the Xceed not so long ago? Cheers Kev

So does my audi use that link to configure my Lumity Life RL-90 to work with the Roger ON iN? I’m missing something here.

Can the Roger itself be programmed in Target? I’m talkin’ to an empty phone here, cuz there’s a dead guy on the line.

I asked my audi if having a MUTE option would improve the streaming of my Roger ON iN in noisy places. She mentioned that with my audiogram, I wouldn’t hear anything if aids were muted and sound only came from Roger. Something tells me that’s not the case tho. I feel like I’m not getting true value from this Roger device cuz neither my audi nor I know how it should work together with my Phonak Lumity Life aids.

My other question is: is the MyRoger app separate from MyPhonk app? Both on the cell phone, so I’d use them for different situations? I feel that we users need some kind of tutorial or demo to get the maximum use out of the devices and apps. I honestly don’t know who to turn to for the answer here. I doubt Phonak Tech Support would be any help.

That doesn’t sound right to me, but it would take less than a minute to test it out and answer the question definitively. If it doesn’t work, just unmute them and at least you’ll know.

Yes, now you’re catching on! You would use the myPhonak app to change the settings on your aids, including muting them if you want. You would use the myRogerMic app with the Roger On to switch between modes or fine-tune directional mic settings. You can do most of that without the app, though.

Thank you SO much for stitching this all together for me. I drag my feet with tech apps - one more thing to learn! But with my quality of life an option, I need to embrace these more.

Your insight about being able to HEAR even in MUTE reminded me: years ago, I had my aids automatically muted when they were streaming via the old TV Connector. I so recall that I’d asked for that cuz without the MUTE, I’d hear too much ambient room noise AND an annoying echo-effect from the actual TV soundbar (which is how my hubs was listening to the same program).

So I will get in to see my audi in a couple weeks with a growing punch-list for what needs doing - TIMES TWO as I have the redundant pair of rechargeable Life aids that need to be identical in setup.

Very helpful post CombatWombat!

I guess my final stoopid question about these apps is that if I have TWO pairs of Phonak Lumity Life aids and TWO Roger ON iN mics, does just ONE app for each on my cell phone control BOTH of these full sets?

Maybe I should just buy the 312-battery Lifes and simplify things LOL. But I need the two aids to get beyond 17 hrs a day of hearing.

Thanks kindly kevels55, I will do more research into this.

The myPhonak app will only control one set of hearing aids. Some of us use a work around which is to download a separate app to use with the second set of aids. Some use the myPhonakJr app and some use the Amphion app. Because the myPhonakJr is designed for children, it has reduced functions, mainly the ability to change volume and to change programs. The Amphion app looks different but has similiar capabilities as the myPhonak app.

The myRoger app (for the Roger Ons) lets you pair to more than one Roger ON. You can only use it to control one Roger at a time. When you open the app you can select or change the Roger on you wish to use.

I haven’t used the Roger Pen (1.1) in a long time. It was the first Roger device I purchased (I buy 2nd hand like @kevels55 ). I’ve since purchased a Roger Select (from @Zebras ) and a RogerOn off ebay.

I find all 3 work pretty well in some environments, and badly in others. Even in meetings (echoey hall), sometimes my hearing aids in Music mode work best of all! Since I’ve had better programmed HAs, Roger devices have made less difference.

Both the Pen and Select use Micro USB, for charging, and the RogerOn using USB-C, the RogerOn is the one I tend to pick up as I leave the house. It doesn’t have to be within arms reach, as I can control it with the MyRogerMic app, and I can control the mix with the MyPhonak app. The display is intuitive, whereas, to me the Pen and Select really aren’t. I forget how many LED flashes mean whatever, and have to google it every time.

Like many on here, we don’t want to draw attention to ourselves, so in that regard, the Pen is best, but to me, the RogerOn isn’t really noticed on a table by my phone. I actually think the Pen was better in pointer mode, although I just aren’t likely to point anything around at people, so it’s on the table, locked in table mode, and the display goes off after a few seconds.

@kevels55 schenario of a Pool tutorial, the Lanyard mode would be perfect, but I’d be unlikely to use it if more than 2 people were in the room.

I have a 2nd Phone for my backup M70s, and have MyPhonak set up on that. Both sets of aids (M70 & P90) are installed for Calls on both phones, as is MyRogerMic. I just turn off Bluetooth on one phone, and on, on the other of switching aids

Question @PeterH I assume then you use a copy simcard with just one the same telephone number to use two phones?

EDITED:
Sorry @bradw for being off topic

No, I bought a different number on a cheap contract. The phone I replaced was too good not to use. Only my wife knpws the 2nd number, but that all who needs to know

Just asked because I looked for a solution also, but my WhatsApp for instance comes only on 1 number. So your solution is not usable in this form for me. Thanks.

@Emile030 Can you do that? Copy sim card and calls ring on both phones? Didn’t know that.

Muting my HA mics really helps me a lot when I am using my Roger On device. I learned that from @kevels55 and now use it extensively.
If you look at my audiogram you can see that I have severe Ski-slope audiogram and am in the profoundly deaf range from about 1800 Hz onward. (So the correct fitting/ programming using frequency lowering (called Sound Recover2 in Phonak hearing aid terminology) is really useful to me, especially with higher pitched sounds like women’s voices.)

Im just going to make a wild assumption, but if your hearing aid mics are muted (long press down volume) and the roger on is connected to the hearing aids, and you are not getting a lot of sound from the Roger, something is very wrong.

There is one other way to mute the mics for Roger, and that is on the Roger program, Program Settings.

If you turn on the Roger, and tap the mics on the front of the Roger, do you hear that?

I carry both phones, when I carry both sets of hearing aids.

I may stream a sports game on one, but still have my main phone available. I don’t miss WhatsApp, as it’s available on my main phone. I have a new WhatsApp account on the new phone, which I may use for gaming groups, where I’m not sure of the people. Messenger, Twitter, Facebook, Email etc are on both.

Works for me for minimal cost. Having said all this, I rarely use the MyPhonak app, except for things like meetings where I really have to try to hear correctly, hense using RogerOn etc.

Peter

I have the Roger On and it works well for me. I wish I liked the Phonak Lumity 90 HAs that go with it, but I only wear them if I need the Roger On. Mostly I use my backup Starkey Evolv HAs.

Hi Dennis, your audiogram looks similar to mine - ski-slope. Trial Oticon Xceed now but love to try Phonak P70 BTE UP in the future with Roger.
