Rexton Reach is still available at Costco.
No problems with my Reach’s
I had some pretty severe failures on my Reach.
This would sometimes occur from a sharp noise like a can of drink being opened. The best way I can describe it is that the noise cancelling activated and dropped the volume and stayed reduced. So as far as I was concerned they seemed to almost be off. Yet I could stream ok and could barely hear the external mics working when rubbing the outside of the aids. Putting into the charger would generally rectify this, but flicking the aid with a finger could also rectify. I did this when I didn’t have the charger handy.
There was a reluctance by Costco to return for warranty, they thought I was the issue, was going to return them and change Costco stores.
But they finally agreed to send them back.
The repaired/replaced aids are fine.
Thanks. I read at Hearing Tracker that Costco had dropped them for a Sennheiser model. That is to be determined.
No, Costco has not dropped the Rexton Reach:
Thanks Filberto. Weird that Costco was grumpy about a return.
Yes I agree, it’s just not on that they do, this not like a standard electronic device, it’s a medical device, so this policy needs to be undated without blacklisting a member for doing so.
with every hearing aids i wear custom molds with vent, Can not take the occlusion without vent.
How have you gone with your Rexton Reach?
I’m going to have to return these again, as I’m once again getting the same problem.
The aid just stops working, the rocker switch still functions though.
It is generally caused by a sharp noise as before, but sometimes a light switch being switched is enough to cause the failure. So times no trigger.
Streaming does not work on that aid but the rocker switch still works to change program. So the aid is still ‘on’ but no sound.
It’s not the wax filters as I am fastidious with the cleaning and drying.
Fail at least 3-4 times/week.
Past the 6 month trial so it’s pretty disappointing at this point.
I think wax buildup is natural, not a measure of cleanliness. Some people generate a lot of wax; some, a little. Sometimes one generates more than at other times. It might be worth changing the wax filter just in case.
I hear what you’re saying and I’m not dismissing it.
I check the filters every week. I use a magnifier on my phone so I can see if there is wax present. I will swap it next time it occurs. But I don’t expect it to cause a total halt of the hearing aid level completely, which is what is occurring.
But as I mentioned the failure is normally, but not always, triggered by a sharp sound like a can opening, a fork being dropped on a plate, etc.
Wax can cause a total halt in hearing it happened to me once with my Rextons.
I have sometimes not often had the aids stop functioning normally after a loud noise but I restored them by cycling through the programs with the buttons on the aids and all was good again
Wax causes complete loss of function hearing conversation for me, but I think I can stream with a completely blocked filter. Total loss of hearing when not streaming is the symptom that causes me to replace my wax filter.
I go to a CVS Mini-Clinic every 3-6 months to get my ears cleaned. I need to replace wax filters every 1-3 months - I can’t predict.
Take the aids back to Costco. If they fix the problem, ask them what they did. (f they say, ‘Just cleaned it,’ ask what ‘just cleaning’ consists of.
Your problems seems like mine. After the one got replaced in May 25, I’ve had one event, two weeks ago that was fixed by putting them in the charger for a few minutes. I asked the person at Costco if they’ve had any issues with the RR’s . They said ‘no, people seem to like it a lot with no complaints…’ Your theory about the noise cancellation program getting hung up is interesting. I agree this has nothing to do with ear wax in the device. When it does it again, I’ll try the cycling through programs and the rocker switch and also lightly tapping it. Costco has been fine with sending them in for replacement. I’ll just keep doing that until the warranty ends. Thanks for your notes!
On 2 occasions now - 1 today - my right side seems dead when I pull it out of the charging case. I know it works because the volume button causes the left to click. Today it took 2 tries of putting it back in the case and then pulling it out to get the right one to “turn-on” properly.
It sound to me like rexton has a firmware problem/BUG … does the phone app show what firmware the aids are using … is it the 9.12 version that is giving the problem or an earlier version ?
Firmware for each aid listed in the phone app is Version is 25.5.972.3. I don’t see any “9.12” type numbers. Phone App version is 2.7.10.16198
Thanks! One time when one died, I put it in the case and back a number of times with no success. I then took it to Costco for replacement.
I have had this occur once. I had to manually turn it off using the rocker switch (can tell as it won’t adjust the volume or program on other aid) as it was not cycling off in the charger. Then back in the charger for a couple of mins and it restarted and worked again.
Honestly I have had some quite frustrating repeat failures of these Rexton Reach.
From the responses here it seems mine is not an isolated case.
Hi GrayGhost,
Where are you seeing the firmware version? On the app I have Firmware as 25.5.972.3.
The App version is the same as others mentioned.
I haven’t been to the hearing centre since early Feb.
Thanks.
