ReSound Omnias with M&RIE Receivers

Opinions about M&RIE for me given my audiogram? I have a steep slope but loss is less than the -80db threshold I saw in one graph. I am in day 5 of trial period of Jabra EP20 (ReSound Omnia) with M&RIE. I still need some adjustment reducing some shrillness, though some of the initial shrillness diminished. I wonder if aids need a bit of break-in time as audiophiles will argue (right or not) that audio electronics do.

M&RIE is a receiver not a model type tho.

my selection is ok, based on this:

I know, I just didnt know what model has it

No it’s actually your “brain” that needs a bit of “break-in time” you’ll get used to these new sounds over time, it seems it’s already started as you stated it’s not as bad as it was.

Oh I see, ok since you have your PC available, must be the MM one.

Oh, really? Only MM? It looks it doesnt fit me

It looks that I’m on limit

Yeah maybe you’ll just squeeze in, not everyone likes them, I didn’t.

I will try…next week Oticon Real 1 then Nexia.

Signia is driving me crazy, cant make it sound the way I like
(must be because of the vent size)

Yeah that’s the case for some of us, just gotta keep trying until you find what your happy with.

I still think that CIC is the best solution for me as I am wearing now (my old widex)

That’s encouraging. Same counter argument with audiophiles!

Initially, that top end was doing the “bink” with piano, horns, etc., like it was distorting. We’ll see with a few more days. thanks

Yeah that could actually be more like “clipping” so maybe not in this case after all, time will tell soon enough.

I’m a musician (classical guitar). My new, better audi just fit my aids to match a new audiogram. with that new audiogram programmed in,I heard a bit of high decibel distortion while playing guitar in the music program. I went in and worked with him on this. It was counter-intuitive that the problem was in the high decibels for music–distortion. My audi brought those down a bit, and Voila! high end distortion is gone; my aids sound the best they ever have for playing music. Fitting is everything. But if one has never had well programmed aids, it’s hard to know what your own can do.

edit: what’s working well for me DOESN’T match up entirely with what my audiology report says. My right ear drum and hammer anvil and stirrup are reconstructed. Sure the audiology should take that into account. All I know is that a minor tweak in the upper decibel range that even I wasn’t sure about has made a very big difference in my musician’s program. Sometimes ya gotta go with what works, test results be damned.

I’m not following. Do you mean high decibel in general, lowering overall gain? Or do you mean he lowered gain on high frequencies?

M&RIE is a receiver (speaker plus microphone) different than standard receiver (only speaker) available when one purchase the HA. M&RIE receiver count on the natural amplification of ear pinna. While the standard receiver count on the microphones and algorithms amplifying the sound inside the piece sitting behind the ear. While M&RIE help amplify the sound counting on the pinna and the third microphone incorporated in the receiver entering the canal. It’s the most advanced receivers so far that is helping around 90% of the population with hearing loss according the data online.

Ha ha, hold up there, if you believe that, then you’ve been on the web far too long, time for a break!
It’s absolute nonsense.

maybe he sells ReSound :joy:

He lowered gain on the top frequencies. Not much, but it’s made a wonderful difference in the quality of the sound I’m hearing from my guitar and from other instruments that my friends are playing. Part of this has to do with having the Signias set up correctly–or anyway better–in the first place. I suspect that my former audi/fitter didn’[t do the best job with these aids to begin with.
