I can’t seem to find any discussion comparing ReSound Live Listen on an iPhone to the Multi-Mic. Is there one on here already? If not, I am trying to find a solution to better hear my daughter in the backseat when we are on long trips. I hate the sound quality of the Live Listen. Is the Multi-Mic basically the same or is it more truly acting a like an additional hearing aid mic? I’d love to hear pros and cons from anyone who has used both. I have the M&RIE Resound Ones (actually the Costco Jabra version from 3 years ago).

To the best of my knowledge live listen is iOS not Resound. I use live listen a lot being bimodal. But then I’m profoundly deaf and my pitch discrimination is so far off perfect it’s not funny. So anything live listen streams to my ears, so long as I can hear and understand I’m ok with.

The multi mic has many more functions than just a microphone. As long as you can pair it to your iPhone it should be better IMO, even though I don’t use one.

Live Listen is IOS, not ReSound. It doesn’t seem very discriminating, IMO. It amplifies both ambient noise and the sound I want to hear.

The Multi-mic is both a directional and omni-directional mic. It connects to T-coils. It allows me to hear sound from my computer if I connect with the right cable. It connects to my landline phone by cable. Some people use it for streaming TV sound to their ears (though I imagine Live Listen would be about as good).

A small point: I don’t pair the Multi-mic with my iphone. It’s paired with my HAs, and the HAs are paired with the phone.

ETA: I think you would want to give the multi-mic to your daughter as a unidirectional mic and raise the level of ambient sound (‘Surroundings’ in the app).

The problem for me is that one needs to use the multi-mic program to hear the multi-mic. You’ll hear your daughter much better, everything else is likely to sound worse.

I doubt that the multi-mic will work on anything but ReSound and its rebrands (Jabra, Beltone…).

is there any way at all to use the MultiMic with phonak hearing aids?

I have used the multi mic. It is perfect for the situation you described. It works less well in group conversations, restaurants and that sort of environment. It also can be very cheap on e bay, and it is simple to synch to your aids . I think e bay has them for $30 or so, you will need to provide the cord.

Maybe with a t-coil? Seems pretty convoluted.

I’ve been wearing ReSound Nexia HAs since March of this year, and recently acquired the Multi-Mic. I have a difficult time hearing my husband’s low voice, especially when riding in the car. He wears the Multi-Mic and his voice comes through loud and clear directly into my HA! Bottom line, the Multi-Mic is a godsend; I don’t have to strain so much to hear him. I suggest giving the Multi-Mic a try.

I was in the exact same position as you, and you’re correct: the Multi Mic is indeed a godsend! My spouse has Resound hearing aids, and we’re looking to get a Multi Mic for him to wear so he can hear me better.

Actually, you would wear the Multi-mic. He would set is aids to the Multi-mic program.

I sometimes do a similar thing with my Roger on when I have a hard time hearing her in the car. She wears the mic clipped on. I hear her wonderfully that way. Not much else, though.

I used to use my MultiMic when walking/talking outdoors with my son. He wore the mic and my HAs heard him wonderfully, even when it was windy. Now that I have Jabra EP20s, I use the Outdoor setting (instead) and it works just as well.
Now I often use the MultiMic near the audio output of my TV, instead of the extra ‘junk’/expense of a TV streamer box.

I’ve used the Multi Mic for a couple of years and it’s awesome in plenty of circumstances, especially when travelling in the car. Adjustments on the GN app improve things further. Recently at a restaurant the MM battery went flat and I resorted to iPhone Live Listen and it was a terrible experience. The MM is brilliant.

Thanks for your experience! It’s great to promote this excellent hearing supplement, especially when they may be found at moderate prices on eBay. (only for the ReSound/Jabra family, I believe)

My niece has a very low voice, so I gave her the Multi-Mic to wear when she was in the back seat of the car, and I heard her beautifully. I had no issues hearing the driver.

Another added bonus to having the ReSound Multi-Mic: I recently went on several tours led by in-person guides. Each guide was very gracious and willing to wear the Multi-Mic, so I had no problem hearing the guides, especially if I was in the back of a large group.or room.
