I’ve never had to re-name mine since I changed it.
I can’t seem to get to that option now Altho I haven’t got my Phonaks connected as I wear Oticons now. Still have them paired tho as they are my spare HAs.

We must not be talking the same thing?
I am not talking about the name you may see on your phone, but the actual bluetooth name that is transmitted when the HA devices are discoverable to any other bluetooth device.
To be honest, what my phone call Phonak HA is not a concern of mine, it is what the world see as a discoverable bluetooth device to pair with that I changed. At work that drove me nuts. In meetings everyone’s laptop or phone could scan and see what use to be my Hearing Aid device. Now they only see Phonak R or L Ear Pod. One day I may change the word Phonak to Bose out of frustrations with Phonak. Remember at work I wear two. One connected to my laptop and the other connected to outside world sounds and my phone if it rings or call is needed. Leave it to Phonak and Audiologist I could not do this.
At home I only wear one which also seems to stress Phonak and Audiologist out.
Are you not talking about the Bluetooth name?
I renamed mine, via the iPhone - R-Sky Pink as I also have a blue one.
Now take another device, scan for bluetooth devices nearby and yours will still say Phonak… As said before, you need to change (via the Target software) the name it broadcasts. not the “friendly” name you are giving it in your phone.
Kev, looking a the positive–I’m still employed, and need to be. I was paid through C19. I’m very grateful. Many people were given packages. They are gone. I’m in a bargaining group; have been for 20 years. Group has no teeth…we’re not a union though legally we should be.
I have an appointment with my audi tomorrow. I’m stressed. It’s been a year and a half using my Phonak Paradise p90R’s. They aren’t good enough yet. I need help to make tomorrow’s session the best I’ve had, and get the results I need.
May I send a PM?

No worries @DaveL, good luck with your appointment tomorrow PM me anytime
You nailed it. This conversation is almost a mimic of multiple conversations I have had with Phonak. Normally you can call back once or twice and eventually the light bulbs come on. You would think a Hearing company would have a propensity to listen, and not always assume. They can’t see the technological opportunities; short of their product and how they have scripted to market and support.
Anyway. I fixed my name for both aids using the Target Software. When I get around to it, I may substitute the word Phonak with Bose
But what was really troubling me is how they don’t understand or didn’t appear to understand that when both aids are paired ( and I am smart enough to know why you want them paired for acoustics) and when using the bluetooth functions, you can’t hear ANYTHING else otherwise. I finally figured out how to split them apart. Even though some have returned to work, Google Meet and Teams meeting are here to stay, I am on those calls almost all day and my R Phonak (Bose) Ear Pod is the greatest thing ever in my book. Phonak don’t see that value. My L Phonak (Bose) Ear Pod is usually connected to my Phone for calls and to listen to the outside world in case someone sneaks up behind me.
Yes I am talking about a Bluetooth name but it is the actual name of the Phonak Bluetooth devices. You have simply told your phone that when it sees the actual name programmed into the Bluetooth HA device, to display your proxy name on your phone. By using the Target Software I was able to change the actual name within the device. This way you don’t have to worry about a proxy name on your new iPhone.
Get your laptop out and scan for bluetooth devices. It will not show you what you set as proxy on your phone; rather what is programmed into the Phonak devices.
Think of it like WiFi SSID, anyone can see what is there. Maybe I don’t like my WiFi to be ATT243765 so I change it “Security Network” or whatever floats my boat? Not that I am embarrassed of AT&T. It is simple right to electronic privacy.
With all that said, thanks for all you do, I enjoy your wealth of knowledge and information
Public Service Announcement:
Scene in Starbucks. A couple at a table are talking to each other:
–Look dear, my phone shows that someone in here is wearing…Hearing Aids???
–OMG, do they allow them in here?
–I feel so freaked out. Good thing I’m carrying a gun!
–Indeed! look around carefully and see if anyone is drooling into their cappucino. that’s always a sure sign of a hearing aid wearer…
–like a rabid dog; I know!! Let’s just quietly get up and leave.
–No need to be quiet…the HA user is deaf after all.
–true. why don’t we simply put hearing loss folks down…
–like in To Kill a Mockingbird, when Atticus needs only one shot…
–exactly. To take down the dangerous dog…
fade. Announcer’s voice comes on:
You too may be in danger from folks with hearing loss wandering about our streets. be alarmed!! pack heat and shoot at the first sighting. Together we can end this curse…unless THEY hide the fact that they use hearing aids. Then all is lost! What a world!!
(this never has happened and never will.)
Last I recall the Phonak Audeo is an over the ear HA, I would think it would be very hard to hide if you are wearing one or two? So no owner of Audeo is trying to hide anything. If you have an issue with belief some are trying to hide their HA, maybe it should be addressed to Oticon, Starkey & Phonak as they are the leaders in making Invisible Hearings aids with ZERO bluetooth capability.
During the interim it is quite common to rename headphones, cellphones, ear pods for a number of reasons. You forget that it is entirely possible to be within 30 feet of another user with the exact same device. Naming is a form of uniquely identifying that makes us all unique. Look at all of the screen names, does that mean that some users are trying to hide that they are on a HA forum? I don’t think so…
But unless you both put the hearing aids in pairing mode at the same time, then that is very unlikely to happen.
I said it was possible, you agree. But if you rename HA to match your individual personality, you may never know. If you ever scanning bluetooth at Starbucks and see Phonak R Ear Pod or Phonak L Ear Pod find the guy with the Audeo HA and buy him a beer, although buying beer at a Starbucks is unlikely to happen.
I was trying to let all of the negative people here know that hiding HA’s is nothing new. Some people do not want to show them and we have no right to judge them.
I also would like to say that I really did not ask for your opinions on something that is completely off-topic. Read my original post “I really do not want the words “hearing aid” or Phonak, etc to show when connecting to anything (TV, Computer, Bluetooth, etc) Is there a way that I can rename it so everything will just show my chosen name “Streaming” ?”
This used to be a very informative forum but from what I see, it has changed drastically for the worse.
I agree and really surprised by the perspective of some professionals in the Audiology industry (this thread anyway). It would be akin to going to a Urologist’s forum board, and they give you what for because someone asked was it possible to pick up catheters in unmarked bags, or even have them mailed in discreet packaging.
Regardless, the answer to your question is Yes, they can be renamed, but only with the Target Software. So you must have a friendly Audiologist that will NOT give you the 3rd degree and/or charge too much; or do on your own.
I did on my own with no help from Phonak Support. If you have the Software advise because someone may have the steps, if not; when I return from work maybe over the weekend; I will go and rename mine again. This time remove Phonak completely. If I do, I will capture my steps.
The below is picture of what I have now and it has worked quite well.
In future, I may go with R - Ear Pod and L - Ear Pod
Seems like we have a question and answer if you just look at the first and last post on this thread. Not going to wade into everything in the middle! Locking comments. Thanks for the answer @dkoldman
