I’ve been wearing the Phonak Paradise P90 RT hearings aids for almost a year. I very much like the “tap control” functionality, including the ability to access the voice assistant (Siri) on my iPhone. But, as others have posted here, I am finding that there are too many instances in which inadvertent or accidental touching of my ear triggers the voice assistant. This has occurred several times while I am in the midst of a conversation with someone, and Siri, overhearing the conversation, attempts to respond to whatever is said. This results in Siri talking in my ear while I’m trying to continue my conversation. Worse yet, in order to stop Siri from continuing to respond to whatever is picked up in the conversation, I have to stop the conversation and turn off Siri (and then I have to explain what just happened). On a couple of occasions, Siri has heard a name and started to dial the phone number of that person in the middle of a conversation.

This is, of course, a big annoyance, and cripples the utility of what is otherwise a great feature. I’m sure others are struggling with this issue too. I’m interested in hearing from other users whether they have come up with strategies to deal with this problem (other than turning off the voice assistant feature). Can audiologists fine-tune the settings to reduce accidentally triggering the voice assistant?

Have you had the (tap) sensitivity changed to try and help?

No, I haven’t, but I’ll explore that with my audiologist when I see her next week. Thank you.

My P90s are configured so the right ear is “on” & the left ear is “off” in regard to tap control. I usually activate it accidentally when I’m switching from sunglasses to plain glasses or vice versa, so I tap the left hear to turn Siri off. Or I just say “that wasn’t for you.”

Make sure she updates the HA’s to the latest firmware, the tap sensitivity options are expanded in the latest update.

I just got the latest firmware yesterday. The tap sensitivity now shows up in myphonak app, and setting it to firm has helped a lot. No inadvertent siri queries today, although I haven’t been callin gon the phone, so I haven’t seen it hangup (or not).

@ncdancer

Only if you’ve had the Firmware Update which the OP hasn’t, as of yet.

Tap control for Siri was set up on my HAs when I first got them. After Siri made a call to the police station (from my contacts) when I took off my glasses, I turned Siri off.
