Phonak Naida Lumity 30 UP - Music and TV shows streamed via Bluetooth sound dead: no bass

Hi. It’s me again. Bilateral Phonak Naida Lumity 30 UP user.

Another problem I have is that all music, of any genre, sounds dead, lifeless, without bass, like I’m listening to an old radio stored in a tin can. The artist’s voice is very clear, but the sounds of the instruments or musical sound effects don’t sound very good; they sound muffled. Imagine listening to your favorite song, for example: Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin without bass or without bass boosts, and only the artist’s voice?
The same thing happens if I stream a TV show via Bluetooth.
Has anyone else experienced this? How is it possible that with simple $5 Chinese headphones, the music sounds so good, so beautiful, with bass, and with these sophisticated hearing aids, it’s the complete opposite?
Is there a solution?
Help…

Note:
I use a new earmold type “full shell”. In none of them I had the Venting orifice.
I don’t know if this affects my problems, but the “Fitting Formula” chosen by my doctor is: DSL v5a Adult

Do you have the technology to move frequencies down to the range where you can hear them? I suspect that is what is happening. Soundrecover or soundrecover2 or something like that. Maybe have a music program created with that turned off. Get rid of the noise reduction, the frequency translation, it will sound like what you hear when it is just loud. You won’t get any of the range where you have no response, but that doesn’t make it sound natural to you anyway.

On Thursday, I checked with my doctor to see if I have SoundRecover2 enabled on all the basic programs (Speech in Noise and Calm Situation). If I disable SoundRecover2, I don’t like how my voice or the voices of others sound.
Can I disable SoundRecover2 only on Bluetooth streaming programs?
To be honest, I didn’t notice if the streaming programs had SoundRecover2 activated or not.
I have three streaming programs:
I know this because the myphonak app shows it on screen when I stream:

AutoSense OS™ 5.0 (Streaming):

  • Media Speech + Mic
  • Media Music + Mic

Streaming Programs:

  • RogerDirect + Mic

I have the “additional program” named “Music” and maybe it has everything disabled (Note: But according to the myphonak app, the base program for this is “Calm Situation”), but selecting it does not affect what is transmitted via Bluetooth at all, since when transmitting, it changes from “Music” to “Bluetooth transmission + mic”

Note: This “Music” program is the basic and essential one. I know that the Naida Lumity L90 and L70 UP versions have another “Music” program; I don’t know the difference with the one I currently have. It was added by my doctor.

Do you have fully occluded moulds, vented moulds or domes?

I have Phonak I90s with UP receivers. The new spheres came out of the box with enhanced mid and base frequencies for a better streaming music experience. The problem that I had was that streaming movies with music soundtracks, the streaming music would overwhelm the speech, overpowering (distorting) my word recognition. Since there is no controlling when/how it switches from streaming speech to streaming music, my audi had to wind back the music curves to match the speech curves so that I can hear the dialogue. YMMV…

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. When I watch a movie using these Phonak Naida 30 UP, the sound is still muted, with no bass, giving priority to the actors’ voices or dialogues. All music and other audio sound horrible. I can tell you that cheap Chinese-brand headphones sound much better for listening to music and watching movies with good sound quality. It’s illogical, but it’s the truth.
I hope this has a solution…

It would be better if we had control over which streaming program got used. Then we could lock in the speech streaming program for movies and the music streaming program for music.

That would have been great! But just transmission programs are blocked to be edited from the Myphonak app, so they can only be edited from Phonak Target.

I have the Phonak Target app plus the NoahLink BT device. My problem is that the software switches between streaming-speech and streaming-music on the fly, depending on what it thinks that it is hearing, and you can’t control this, even with Target. So in my case, we had to neuter the streaming-music program to ensure that I could hear speech all the time during a movie.

Maybe have two types of streaming? Use a mic for voice, and a connector for music?

That’s interesting…

Music sounds to you with Bass or Bass when you transmit it by Bluetooth?

But you have been able to give bass (increase the serious) to * Media Music + Mic" (Streaming Program) from Phonak Target?

If your music sounds with Bass. You could please make a screenshot of your transmission programs in Phonak Target:

  • Media Speech + Mic
  • Media Music + Mic

The serious capture of the “fine tuning” tab after the lower tabs:

  • Gain & Mpo
  • Program option
  • Audibility Fine Tuning
  • Soundrecover2
  • Automatic Fine Tuning

In order for my doctor to see them and guide to solve my problem
I need to see what configuration you have, capable it helps me to guide my doctor.
^Please?

If you can’t, no problem. But someone else in this forum who has no problems with music and listening to Bass as it should be, could they make these screenshots?

Thank you

I’ve been experimenting. Firstly, I’ve tried to match the gain curves of the 2 streaming programs for best comprimise. I don’t notice any switching.

My experiments with a pair of older earmoulds. They are vented and don’t go very deep into my ear canals. My main pair are very deep and also vented.

Anyway, I’ve temporarily blocked up the vents in the shallow pair. Initially there was no real improvement in bass response, until I pushed the backs of my ear forwards, then I could hear the bass. I’m using a live Rock band DVD to test. I believe this closed a gap in my ear canal. Last night, I noticed that if I opened my mouth, the bass guitar disappeared!

I’ve ordered 2 more pairs of deep moulds, with 1 pair being totally occluded. These impressions were taken with a bite block (my mouth was open), so I shouldn’t have the above problem. My problem with streaming is mould related rather than gain curves.

This fitting formula doesn’t add any bass for streaming programs, if I remember correctly.

Interesting, I hope you can solve everything simply by changing the molds.

But could my doctor increase the bass on streaming programs using Phonak Target to address all the issues I mentioned about bass-less music and sounds, regardless of whether the DSL v5a Adult fitting formula is being used?

Yes the doctor could increase the bass manually.

My audiologist kind of did the opposite. She normalized the streaming-music and streaming-speech curves to match the curves from my old Costco KS9s (which worked well streaming to UP receivers) and that more or less solved my problem, which was too much base overpowering speech when dialogue is accompanied by music in a movie or show.

It isn’t illogical, earbuds have dynamic driver receiver which is good for bass, but lacks precision and accuracy replaying speech (especially in middle and high frequency).

In hearing aids, there is the balanced armature (probably from Knowles), which has the necessary precision for middle and high frequencies necessary for the majority of users.
