Phonak Bluetooth TV connection is almost useless

The Phonak TV Bluetooth option is the most irritating thing I have ever dealt with. Originally the technician set my aids up to connect with the transmitter when I was within 30 feet of it. This was unacceptable since I may not want to watch TV when my wife does and blasting the TV audio in my ears is upsetting. So, they changed it to on demand. The problem is any notification on my aids tends to disconnect them from the TV. I am supposed to be able to touch an aid to reconnect but that rarely works. I have to try three things to try to reconnect; restart my phone, plug the aids in the charger to turn them off/on, restart the TV transmitter. While I am trying to reconnect the program continues on. This disconnect happens several times during a program.

What’s the phone for? Are you using the TV Connector (TVC)? Does it have touch buttons on the top?
I manually turn off the TVC when I’m not intending to hear the tv through it. Some people put it on a switch controllable with a remote.
Bluetooth is different from the TVC.

The Phonak TV Connector isn’t Bluetooth, so there are 2 things going on here.

Regarding the TV Connector, your Audiologist can switch it to manual switching, so it doesn’t automatically connect.

Regarding Bluetooth notifications interrupting, maybe switch off Bluetooth on your phone, or turn off notifications for specific apps? I have switched off automatic playing of videos in Facebook. This really helps.

The Phonak TV connector comes into action automatically whenever it receives an audio signal. My HAs are configured to pick up the connector’s signal whenever it gets activated. Indeed, I sometimes do not want this (when the wife watches something I am not interested in). So I have simple volume dial next to my chair that controls the audio that goes to the connector. Dialing the volume to low stops everything.

My transmitter has no controls on the TV transmitter. IT is controlled thru the phone app. The aids must connect to the TV part of the app and pairs with the phone for calls and a separate pairing for the TV

Is it the V1 or V1.1 from the pdf link here? Or do you have a different device?

The buttons on the aids should be able to control the volume balance. I don’t think you need the app. Of course if you want to use the phone then you need to pair with it.

How to stop your TV Connector from automatically connecting (both versions)

I use a little AC power remote control to turn the Phonak TV Connector ON & OFF.
That way I have complete control and it reacts in a few seconds.
