Phonak audeo + tv connector : strong RF

New to HA (a few days).

When I listen to streamed music from my computer, via tv link, there’s a very noticeable artefact (somewhat like frying bacon) especially during soft passages. Typical of poor connections and/or cheap hardware. Sound is also poor if I stream BT to Phonak.

I get the feeling that the HAs are trying to amplify too much – my computer volume is at its minimum yet sound pressure is louder than what i’d usually listen to. I’ve had to install 3rd party app on my computer to lower the volume.

My Shure 535 + wireless adapter do not exhibit this, both excessive gain and poor signal-to-noise ratio.

Any suggestion? Is this a programming issue, hardware limitation, “feature”?

This is apparently typical when long-term loss of highs is corrected. You have to re-learn what those high sounds are and how they relate as overtones of low sounds.

However you say the Shure (a non-HA product) does not do this?? It could be it is not lifting the highs enough to ‘annoy’ the out-of-practice parts of your hearing. But as you note it could be bad connections. You should ask your HA provider. S/he may be able hear it, or may have the test-box to report distortion. (Expect to be told “you will get used to it”, because it is often true.)
