Philips 9050 experience at Costco RSHL

I will say that I and my husband returned our 9050’s for pretty much the same reasons plus. I wound up in Tears every time I put them in, multitude of reasons. We both put our Phone Ak’s back in our ears. He’s getting a new set of the upgraded phone ak’s (rechargeable-I forget the model name) on Saturday and I am hoping that it works better than the 9050’s. I am going Thursday for consult on CI, as I have no hearing in my right ear, and am diminished to maybe 20 or 30% in my left. And as the Costco brands will not work with the CI, I’m waiting to see what happens with that before I buy.

Your audiogram is one that REM cannot follow and one that many programmers cannot tweak to make it work. You may have to search for a better person to program the age to your hearing loss.

You may want to go to another COSTCO location - may be they might be able to adjust the 9050 to better meet your needs.
Also, when trialing a new HA, one’s brain will need a while to get used to it.

I have the same issue. Going back to Costco for a second adjustment to my Philips 9050s. Speech in noise just doesn’t help - as soon as I turn it on the background noise (especially restaurants) just gets worse. Using the equalizer to turn the treble way down helps some. Also having trouble with fitting - I’m not sure she is fitting them properly.

A much better result from my 2nd follow-up visit. Thank goodness the Costco is only 15 min away! Reduced the treble AND the base for speech in noise (some in the program, some in the Hearlink app) and its working better. Persuaded the Audiologist to take a proper look at the fittings. Concluded the wires were too short and my right ear is smaller and needs a smaller dome. Much better! Pretty happy with them now. Also got an FMA120 dongle for my laptop and I can stream directly to my 9050’s.

Judging by your audiogram, you’re probably being fitted with open domes. If that’s the case, open domes allows all the noise to go through the vents of the dome and hit your ears just the same. The only suppressed noise you hear is from the amplified sounds, which in the high frequency sounds because that’s where your hearing loss is. So if the low and mid frequency noise is allowed to enter into your ear canals freely through the open domes’ wide-open vent, they’ll end up overwhelming any little suppressed high frequency sounds that get amplified. If you can tolerate a closed fitting dome, the noise suppression can probably become more effective. Another temporary thing you can do if you want to wear open domes because it works for you better most of the times when it’s not noisy, thanks to the non-occlusion, is to maybe put on some ear plug in noisy places temporarily to block out the noise from being able to naturally and freely enter into your ear canals. This way the noise-suppressed amplified sound delivered by the hearing aids can become more effective if that’s all you’ll hear. I would suggest that you create a special custom program for it and change the fitting (just for this program only) to closed domes in order for the software to re-prescribe the gain to match with the closed dome fitting. Then when you put on the ear plugs (or actually change the domes from open domes to closed domes) when you’re in a noisy environment, that will help make the noise suppression work better for you.

Happy Year of the Snake! We braved the snowfall last night and I was finally able to torture test my 9050s in a very busy - very noisy Cantonese supper club to ring in the new year with my daughter-in-law. With 500-600 people all seemingly talking at once, my HAs held the din to a comfortable level and still allowed me to hear my tablemates and the servers.

Btw . . . I have a new Motorola phone that just updated to Android 15, but still no love with BT LE audio. It is mentioned in a connection menu but it hasn’t been activated in the phone - it would appear.

And the HearLink app still does not like to stay connected . . . :confused:

You may need to turn LE Audio off or on in your phone’s setting in Developer.
My Pixel 9 got an update last week and Bluetooth has been totally messed up. I had to turn le audio off in developer. My cochlear K2 processes are not LE Audio ready.

I view my phone as an irritating appliance, so it is only a cheap moto g power and I didn’t buy it expecting LE audio compatibility. :sunglasses:

Thanks @tenkan Still no love in developer options. The only LE audio options are grayed out - so not available yet . . . I guess I can’t expect much with a $300 phone. :sunglasses:

And the bluetooth version 5.2 or 5.3?

The specs say 5.3. But in the phone, I can’t find any mention of the version number - oddly . . .

I asked Motorola’s support and the answer . . .

“I understand that you were hoping the recent Android 15 update would enable LE Audio support for hearing aid connections, including streaming and Auracast. However, this device does not have LE Audio support , but it does support ASHA (Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids) .”

Edit: to be clear, the phone is the Motorola Moto G Power 5G 2024
