These sad chewed hearing aid stories remind me of a cartoon in HiFi News: Man in loudspeaker store is saying to salesperson “My ears fall off at high frequencies”. His ears, of course, are seen falling off.
My old Samoyed chewed my aid… best thing he ever did got two Phonak Marvels my 1st Bluetooth aids from my insurance cover.
Seriously though, if your dog has eaten a battery in the last hour or so get to a vet foran Apomorphine tablet in the eye to induce fast ie in 5 minutes vomiting it up.
Bluetooth is the bomb with HAs. You owe your dog a thank you pet. Fortunately he did not eat any pieces or battery… this time.
I think it is the smell of the molds for some dogs, when I was young we actually got blackballed from HA insurance because our dog had eaten too many! I think the dog (a voracious Golden Retriever) mostly wanted the molds as she managed to chew up many molds without harming the HA but still managed to get enough HAs to get us dropped from insurance. I had a few years after the insurance was denied where I had an HA with some doggy nibbles and a mold with a bite in it - all still worked fine and was comfortable
For what it is worth my family is basically all absent minded professor types and I never got in trouble, my parents are very self aware on that front It was my own initiative to start keeping my HAs in a jewelry box on my nightstand around 8yo that solved the problem.
Oddly enough, this insurance blackball lasted well into my 20s across multiple audiologist practices! Honestly, how HA insurance works is totally opaque to us consumers. I was able to get it again in my last and current set of HAs but no idea why or how the blackball followed me around so long before.
