I am a new HA user. I have Oticon Intent 1 and when I use my Sennheiser 800S over-the-ear headphones with My Music setting, it sounds great so far. I disagree that the Harman curve accentuates the highs; it in fact has a steady decline per octave. It’s what I use with Roon and Qobuz when I use their DSP. But I also have to say that when I use my Genelec desktop monitors and the Oticons on My Music, and with the Harman curve dialed in via DSP, it sounds equally as good as with the Senns. I love the Harman bass boost and naturally declining highs. YMMV.
Many thanks for your insight, appreciated
Good explanation of your preference, which does match to you hearing loss.
I just happen to be one of the 30% that doesn’t love Harman, but enjoys the the Diffused Field curve which is a bit flatter, and doesn’t (to my ears) boost bass, too thin in the low-midrange, too much 3-8kHz. Actually, anything over 8k is pretty much lost on me.
BTW, the Senny 800S is a great can, but I can’t appreciate that expense baseed on my hearing loss, so I very happily enjoy my HD 6XXs. I’m lucky to hear the difference between Spotify, and Amazon UHD!
I guess I tried it a couple months ago and will try again but what I’ve been doing is removing my Rexton Reach HAs and inserting a set of Etymotic Research earbuds. IMO the sound definitely rivals my RR experience. Adds a lot of highs and as you can see, that’s what my audiogram indicates I really need. This is especially helpful in the gym where the isolation characteristics of the Etys are super helpful in blocking out the clanking of plates and the chatter, plus the background music they play all the time. I’ve been watching movies and TV with them too in my home theater setup. The HAs are OK with that but the Etys rival that absolutely.
My Music Program with my Rexton Reach HAs as tailored by the fitter (who’s the head of the Costco HAC for 2 years and has worked at it for 7 years) is really awful. I asked him to increase the treble and he did but it’s still really low in the treble. I intend to ask a fitter there (either the same guy or the alternate) to boost the treble. I’ve got the HAs tuned to that Music Program right now for all-day wear and have the “Balance” boosted almost all the way. That brings out the treble. Will ask the fitter to make that the permanent setting. Like that it sounds very similar to the Automatic Program to me. I suppose it doesn’t look for speech as much if at all as the Automatic Program, but living alone, I don’t need that a whole lot.
Yes, when I’m out & about I use the ER3 SE IEMs with a bluetooth DAC/Amp conn ected to my phone.
They sound great!
Music is such a personal thing, and most fitters don’t “get” it.
The only way to achieve a decent Music program is to learn DIY. That empowers you to fine tune the settings listening to your music through your system.
