Hi all… I have officially reached my frustration level with OPN S1s constantly restarting (mostly while using TV adapter) as well as constant disconnecting from the app, etc… I sent email to audiologist - aids were replaced by Oticon in June (sent in the old ones for them to “check” .) all they did was send a new pair - don’t know if they even checked the other ones… but problems persist… I even tried a new TV adapter box but - no joy … Anyone know when the next “new” aid (post-MORE) will come out? I can’t remember what the timeframe is… is it 2 years? If so, I assume the next iteration won’t be out until 2022… just don’t think I can hang on until then… My insurance covers $2500 every 3 years - I don’t think I have the entire $2500 at this point… The other function that would be nice would be hands free phone calls by tapping the aids… I assume Oticon may get on board with this at some point… anyone know if this function could be added to the MORE aids? I am just SO frustrated … the other challenge is that my audiologist doesn’t carry any MORE demos , so I can’t even test them out to see if problems I’m having will persist with the MOREs… Anyone with the MOREs that can advise me , I’d appreciate it… I MIGHT be able to convince audiologist to get MOREs for me to trial … not sure … TIA
When I was trialing AX7, my aids would do odd things like change programs or volume levels. It was the bluetooth connection. I disabled that and connected to my phone app with a radio frequency. Problem gone. Nada.
Nancy I haven’t been have any issues with my More1 aids with the TV adapter and the ON since I updated my iPhone to IOS15.1. The only time I have had issues is with my aids paired to both the iPhone and iPad and both with the Bluetooth enabled… Now I haven’t gotten my More1 aids updated yet either, hopefully that will happen soon, now that the new VA contract is in place as of today.
You might want to consider ReSound aids. They’re like Oticon in that they deliver “all around” sound by default, and the main program adjusts its operation based on the environment (like Oticon, and unlike Phonak which operates on the principle of switching programs as the environment changes). ReSound is compatible with MFi (Made for iPhone), and they’ve announced an upcoming hands-free option for the ReSound One aids. An aid made by ReSound is available from Costco under the Jabra brand.
Several of us here on the forum are satisfied ReSound users. We just aren’t as vocal as a subset of the Oticon users.
Nancy I agree look at what is available regardless of the brand. It isn’t about what anyone else likes it is about what works for you.
Thanks… not sure what you mean by “radio frequency”? How would I do that?
Thanks… my audiologist is going to talk to her Oticon rep… I don’t have much hope, but I would be willing to trial the MOREs just to see if they are stable… then I’d have to decide if I want to/can shell out the $$$ …
Thanks… Appreciate it… I may ask my audiologist about them… I think back when I first started wearing Hearing aids (about 4 years ago… I’m a newbie the audiologist started me with ReSound (I think) but I wanted rechargables, and at that time (I think) Oticon was the choice… I started out with Zpower OPNs … what a nightmare … Oticon finally swapped them out for OPN S 1s rechargables - which I appreciated , but …
@nedunla -> I’m guessing that you may have some kind of radio interferences in your environment that competes on the same frequency band as the TV Adapter, which may cause dropouts in the transmission from time to time, prompting the reboot in the HAs. Just the fact that you tried different OPN S1s and also a different TV Adapter to no avail suggests that radio interference in your environment may be the case. The TV Adapter transmits to the OPN S via the CEVA Riviera BT Low Energy protocol. Usually it’s in the 2.4 GHz range. If you have other devices in your home that may transmit around this frequency range, they may cause contention with each other. If it’s not the HA or the TV Adapter, I think trying out the More to see if it’d resolve the problem or not may not be a guaranteed success. But it doesn’t hurt to try, although if the More demos are not available, don’t sweat it too much because it’s more likely that you’ll see the same problem. Also the fact that others (myself included) don’t get the random reboot of our Oticon HAs when using the TV Adapter suggests that the issue is specific to something in your environment.
What you can try to do is if the device you use to drive the TV Adapter has BT, then maybe try out the connection to a ConnectClip instead of the TV Adapter instead to see if this improves. The ConnectClip uses the same CEVA Riviera BT LE protocol as the TV Adapter to stream to the HAs, but if it’s worn closer to your OPN S so that the streaming signal is stronger than the distance from your TV Adapter across the room, then maybe it’ll help. It doesn’t hurt to try as long as your driving device supports BT to use with the ConnectClip.
Thanks… you’re getting over my expertise here… by “device you use to drive the TV adapter has BT” … do you mean TV it’s connected to? IF so, I have Samsung Q80 … I believe it does has BT but can’t tell what protocol it is… my WiFi router uses both 2.4 and 5Ghz … I keep it set at 5Ghz …
If your Samsung Q80 has BT support, most likely it is the original standard BT protocol that is ubiquitously used for almost everything. So what you can do is maybe borrow a ConnectClip from your HCP as a debugging exercise and pair and connect it to the Samsung Q80. Then you can hear the audio from the Q80 through the ConnectClip instead of the TV Adapter.
on my smartphone signia app, in “setti9ngs” there are two options for connecting the phone to the aids: one is bluetooth, and the other is not. My audi just said that the second option uses a standard radio style wave to connect. It works perfectly for the aids, with no glitches. The Signia bluetooth connection is famous for being crappy, apparently.
Hopefully your aids have a non bluetooth option for connecting. By the way, Signia has a dedicated mini controller for changing volume and programs that’s meant for people who don’t have a smartphone. That also doesn’t connect with bluetooth. So you should have this option. IT’s worth a try.
It solved my horrible connection issues that caused random changes in my aids.
Thanks… I’m not sure if there’s a non-bluetooth option for connecting the phone to the aids… I don’t see anything…
So I got alerted to the fact that BC/BS now only pays up to $2500 every 5 years, instead of every 3 not sure when they changed it… changes my options … bummer
mine isn’t obvious…it doesn’t really say what it is, in that special HA industry way of keeping things out of the hands of the mere users.
I’m hearing similar stories with Aetna Meritain
We are talking about Oticon OPN aids, why interject the Signia AX into the conversation and confuse people??
Thanks
Mike
It’s the specific plan that denotes the amount or frequency which is the deal they made with your employer. They are only the Administrators of the Plan agreed upon…
I am assuming that this is Employer insurance, not privately purchased.

No other way to connect OPNs that I have seen either.
OPN is MyFi not standard Bluetooth.

My hearing aids just went out of the 3 year warrantee and they have been doing this randomly since them. Sometimes it’s one time after another. Extremely frustrating as it interrupts the conversation/meeting!
