I do not know if this is true but Kaiser audiologist tell me that my audio nerve to my brain is dead so there is little that can be done to improve my understand of speech.
The readings on my audiograph read as follows:
WRS 0 DB 100 (65) SCORE 36.0 %
WRS X DB 100 (65) SCORE 12.0 %
WRS B I 95 SCORE 48.0 %
I do not know how to read that and whether or not it mean that the audio nerve is dead. Do you know what the indicator for this is?
If I am looking at your audiogram correctly you do have hearing in both ears. You also may be a candidate for CI, maybe bilaterally.
My understanding is you need to have a CI evaluation along with other medical tests to verify if your cochlear nerve is functional or not.
Getting the CI evaluation will answer many questions you have about your hearing and what direction is best for you concerning your hearing. It does not force you to do anything.
But yours is probably not in 1933.
The thing is, I am not frail, take only BP meds, have no serious illness, and am able to do most things. I wonder if anyone has been told by an Audiologist to look into CI. I think not, and I think that is shameful. It has never been mentioned to me and my hearing loss is a familar problem, inherited.
You got me by 23 years.
My neighbor across the highway is 93. We get together for a couple beers often. He loves my homebrew.
That’s too bad about never having the opportunity for better hearing. You joined this forum before I did. CI was talked about very little back then here on the forum. Seems it only got talked about in the past 5-6 years here.
Typical hearing aid sales don’t profit from CI. So CI is not brought up to potential users. At least here in the US.
For those interested you do not need a CI referral if you are 65 or older in the US. You can make your own appointment.
Could not agree more when it comes to Phonak wax guards. The best thing about going to my present Phillips aids (Oticon platform) is detailed sound quality and the smart wax guard design.
The demand for custom products, CIC, ITE is shrinking that is why most manf tend to focus first on the Rite instruments. While the the iteration of the own is great it is perhaps best to consider behing the ear hearing aids.
