Hi all – just got a pair of Oticon Intent 1s after demoing them for a week, but I’m having an issue with the TV streaming (from my computer) that I don’t think I had with the demos and I’m trying to figure out what the issue is.
Basically it feels like something in the chain is being overdriven, especially at the lower end – things sound clippped and harsh all the time. Anything with any bass causes a very noticable hiss. If I just try to play a 80hz tone (Online Tone Generator - generate pure tones of any frequency) I do hear some bass but it’s at least as much distortion/hiss going along with it.
My correction is pretty much entirely high-frequency (mild loss dropping off to profound from 3khz to 8khz).
I’ve tried adjusting all the things I can (PC volume, streaming volume in the app) and none of it really makes a difference. It’s also pretty bad when streaming directly from my phone, which indicates that it’s not the TV streaming setup.
But…I’m not sure what the deal is. I don’t have the demo HAs any more obviously but I don’t THINK it was this bad (I used them for two weeks and ran them through the paces including some pure low tones), but I guess I can’t be totally sure. These should be the exact same model, though.
Is there any sort of audiologist-side setting that controls the volume level of streaming that I don’t have access to? I know there’s a limit to what these tiny drivers can do, but it really does sound like they’re just being overdriven at some point. I’d expect that to be the case if I had them up really loud, but even when they’re pretty dang quiet I’m hearing distortion and noise if the audio has any lower frequencies to it.
I’ll ping my audiologist but she’s going out of town and I’m not sure how long it’ll be before I can get in for an appointment, if there even is anything that she can adjust.
Anyone else have experience here? I know there are limits, but what sort of streamed audio quality should I be able to expect? (and like I said, I sure think it was better in my demos…)
Thanks!
