I had my first adjustment fitting appointment yesterday and spoke at length with my fitter about the issue I mentioned here on the forums. She said that is unusual as the best way I could explain it was between tv and automatic it was flicking between both and then bouncing between separate programs within the automatic setting trying 3/4 different settings for a singular sound (fan noise) I could literally count the changes between each program Which explains the wierd changes I noticed with dimming/sudden increase fluctuating volume/mic direction. My fitter called a helpline to seek advice on what would be the best way to combat that problem, they spoke to me and my fitter at the same time and advised to remove the tv setting completely for me as it has occured to others using the KS10 before and is a known thing that comes up from time to time I wouldn’t call it a problem but they explained the tv setting can be finicky like that. The helpline explained as it tries to determine where the voices are i.e tv while picking up a particular sound and and goes into a cycle of programs for certain noises/voices/sounds and because I had voices in noise from a tv while having a fan running it couldn’t pick which program to choose best as it’s programed in specific ways for each program.
It was recommended to set up a music setting just for tv listening that once I turn on it stays on until I choose to switch back to the automatic program from either the Easy line app or from my push button settings. They said this should stop the hearing aids trying to repeatedly change between programs while I watch TV. I tried this last night and it fixed the above problem perfectly no jumpy oh gosh super loud fan noise out of the blue then quiet tv.
My gain settings i assume that is what she was referring to has been set up to increase gradually over the next two weeks usually my fitter would go with 30 days gradual increase but she said I seem to be capable and understanding of what I’m experiencing and expecting have worn hearing aids most of my life she went with a two week number, she toyed with just doing the change completely yesterday but said rather than overload me in one full swoop she would rather err on the side of caution, I completely respect her decision. I have yet to try them in restaurant and larger group settings due to work schedules and usual game nights being cancelled once I do I will make notes of any changes needed for those. One to one voices are mostly clear unless someone is mumbling I was able to hear a friend’s daughter calling out to me from behind me last night and did a ooo I heard that spun round and did a happy wave. I’ll update more with other things I notice but my fitter said I can always call for tweaks or stop in.
