Mic to hear multiple conversations at restaurant table

I have the multi mic with resound quattros and the same issue. I do not have any Phonak accessories. Can you explain in more detail with the links of what to purchase.

Here are some videos at the Costco site. Sounds intriguing!

Hi! I may be late in reaching out. I’ve bought
Multi mic and they are amazing when a person is wearing. Clear and understood to what a person is saying. I am happy about this.

Now, on a table mode is a different story, the output is poor and Im trying to figure out why?!?

I’ve also tried FM Reciever (03) plugged into multi mic and connect Roger pens. All placed on the table. The sounds is very poor too.

Any suggestions??

I’m no techie, but I’m assuming you have Phonak aids? I had a program added to my Phonak Lumity Life aids that basically switches OFF the aids mic and dedicates the Roger ON iN mic for incoming audio. It works amazingly well in tabletop mode - so much so that I just put it on the tabletop when my in-laws call in and hubs has his cell on speakerphone. I can hear the conversation clear in a different room! Same at a restaurant. If I put that on the table and switch my aids to just pick up audio from the mic, it’s better than having that compete with my Phonak aids.

That said, I also find I hear about as well if I put my aids into “Speech in Loud Noise” at a noisy restaurant - and NO Roger mic. My biggest worry with the mic is that I forget it and leave it on the table. That’s a risk I don’t take lightly, cuz the Roger is my ticket to perfect TV streaming every night at home.

Multi Mic is a ReSound device, unless they mean Mini Mic?

Ah, you’re probably right. I just saw “Roger pens” and figured Phonak.

Hi, I’m intrigued. How does one ‘try multiple brands of HA’s’ without forking out endless amounts of £000’s? Do tell.

Interesting to see this thread resurrected after years. In the US I have been able to trial multiple sets of HAs without having to buy them if I chose not to. I don’t know how the system works in the UK.

In the US audis get demo models of new HAs from the manufacturers. Patients are able to try out these demos for a set amount of time, typically 4-6 weeks, and then decide to buy them or not. Usually the trial does not require the patient to buy the HAs up front.

My new purchase of Phonak Spheres was an exception. My audi was not able to get demo Spheres without a months-long wait. Due to insurance reasons I needed to make my purchase in 2024, so I paid up front with the proviso that I could return them for a full refund in 45 days. I decided to keep them.

Without reading absolutely ALL of the above, I’ll just note that your original post speaks of the “mini-mic”. The standard external mic for ReSound/Jabra products is the “Multi-Mic”, at least that’s what I have and have always understood. When laid flat on a table, it functions in ‘all-around’ fashion and will pick up any voice at the table. When in the upright position (as when clipped to a shirt), it focuses on one voice at a time.
So, lay it flat on the table and you should be fine–that is, if you are speaking of the Multi-Mic (while calling it the mini-mic).

Thanks for bringing back this important topic. The only thing that works for me in restaurants is old-fashioned low tech solutions: choosing a restaurant without music; asking to sit next to the person I want to talk to; telling the other guests I’m hard of hearing so they don’t think I’m rude; writing out messages to the waiter. I’m usually best off removing my hearing aids and having a 1 on 1 conversation with the person next to me. I just tell the other guests I can’t hear them in a restaurant. This is even more so in a wedding or a large dinner.

Try a noise cancelling wireless mic. connected to an iPhone using the iPhone’s Accessibility Live Listen feature. Stacks cheaper than HA manufacturers’ mics. and streets better. At last my wife and I can enjoy lunch and converse in a noisy restaurant. I used a (used=low cost iPhone 11 + Hollyland Lark M2 microphone.

Is there such a thing as a readily-available microphone with noise cancelling features that plugs via cord into an iPhone?
That way I could put my iPhone + microphone down on the center of the table in the cafe where we are all sitting and use the Live Listen function to hear conversations more clearly.

Note: this is iseparate from the HA manufacturer bespoke solutions like Phonaks Roger family

There’s mention of the Holly land Lark M2 on the forum. Not sure about group conversations.

I use a Hollyland Lark M2 mic. at restaurants. It is not suitable as a table mic. It will pick up my partner’s voice, but noise cancelling features are overwhelmed if background voices and sounds too great.
I’m wondering whether to invest in a more expensive wireless lapel mic. in the hope noise cancelling would be better - still exploring reviews & sites like these.
Live Listen is a smart iPhone exclusive feature, but it needs an external wireless mic.

As I search for candidate microphones that I can put on a table at a restaurant to hear multiple conversations, the prices get closer and closer to the cost of those Roger microphones put out by Phonak for exactly the same purpose
