Making a custom mold for receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aids

Price ranges from 130€ to 170€. So a bit more expensive than the Dutch hearing aids chains, s.a. Beter Horen, Schonenberg

Do the chains offer soft silicone molds nowadays?

I have the cap domes because the open small domes were way too big for my ear canals so maybe I’ll get a good result playing around with making my own molds.

I have an easy solution I would like to share with you that works good for me.

After having alot of problem with leakage from costume made ear molds I simple went and bought ear plugs, like Mack´s earplug. I cut the earplug in a size fittable for the head of the reciever. I then took a needle and made it hot with a lighter, and made a small hole right trought the earplug (as tight as possible). Then with a little bit of force put the head of the reciever right trought the earplug and woila a perfect comfortable earmold.

I was conserned that it would not work without a ventilation channel but it works fine. I have tried different sizes of the earplugs, if the earplugs are to big it feel a bit wierd but then i just take a smaller size.

Using dental alginate (mold gum) to make a mold of the old mold then pour candle wax into it. Viola, a candle wax mold is done. Shape it properly with a small knife then made a mold again but pour in food silicone, you get a silicone mold. Shape it with a knife, you get silicone mold.
Play around with it.
